Story
Broadcaster Jacinta Parsons was in her 20s when she first began to feel unwell - the kind of unwell that didn’t go away. Eventually she got a diagnosis: Crohn’s disease. But knowing this wouldn’t stop her life from spiralling into a big mess of doctors, hospitals and medical disasters. What’s most extraordinary about Jacinta’s story is how common it is. With compelling candour, Jacinta trains a microscope on the unique challenges of living with an invisible condition.

Story
We all have a soundtrack to our lives, songs that as soon as we hear them we're transported to a moment in time. As the youngest child, and only girl, in a family of creative types, Myf Warhurst grew up with the music in her. Whether she was watching Daryl Braithwaite on TV on a Sunday night or listening to the crackle of the needle across vinyl as Agnetha and Anni-Frid took her from rural Victoria to Eurovision, music has always shaped Myf's life. Later her love of music (and the realisation that a professional pianist gig wasn't part of the plan) would shape her career.

Story
From a young age, her life was defined by uncertainty—by trauma and strength, sadness and hope, terrible lows and wondrous highs. As a teenager she found the courage to speak up after experiencing awful and ongoing child sexual abuse. This fight to find her voice would not be her last. The Ninth Life of a Diamond Miner is Grace's story, in Grace's words, on Grace's terms. Like Grace, it is sharply intelligent, deeply felt and often blisteringly funny. And, as with all her work, it offers a constructive and optimistic vision for a better future for all of us.

Story
Western folklore and mythology are rife with brilliantly creative, fulfilled, feisty, and furious role models for aging women, despite our culture's focus on youthfulness. In her exciting new book, mythologist and psychologist Sharon Blackie explores these archetypes, presenting them in a way sure to appeal to contemporary women. Drawing inspiration from these examples, women can reclaim midlife as a liberating, alchemical moment rich with possibility and their elder years as a path to dynamic power.

Story
Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor were a Sixties supercharged couple in an era of supercharged couples. As a pairing they were fantasy figures, impossibly desirable. Liz supple and soft, in perfumes and furs - yet with something demonic and lethal about her. Dick, in turn, with his ravaged, handsome face, looked as though lit by silver moonlight - poised to turn into a wolf. Roger Lewis uses this glamorous and damaged pair as the starting point to tell the story of an age of excess.

The mind is a marvel. It's at the centre of our most rewarding experiences. It lets in awe and laughter, love and wisdom, and helps us overcome life's great trials. It's our greatest asset, but it can also be our greatest adversary, allowing in self-doubt, anxious thoughts and depression. It can magnify our fears and undermine our best intentions, and lead us into life's darkest corners. Based on James O'Loghlin and Professor Ian Hickie's popular podcast, Minding Your Mind is an exploration into everything you've ever wanted to know about how the mind works.

Story
Ned West dreams of sailing across the river on a boat of his very own. To Ned, a boat means freedom–the fresh open water, squid-rich reefs, fires on private beaches–a far cry from life on Limberlost, the family farm, where his father worries and grieves for Ned's older brothers. They're away fighting in a ruthless and distant war, becoming men on the battlefield, while Ned–too young to enlist–roams the land in search of rabbits to shoot, selling their pelts to fund his secret boat ambitions. But as the seasons pass and Ned grows up, real life gets in the way.

Publisher's Summary
Grappling with ageing is one of the most confronting elements of being a woman. When we become invisible, when we lose our sexual currency, when we lose that elasticity in our skin, when our bodies soften and change, when our perceived 'value' to society dramatically falls, when our notion of self-worth takes a radical shift.
What do we do when our outside self doesn't match our inside self? That old woman staring back at her reflection in the mirror doesn't understand why she feels so young. So how do we adjust our perceptions of getting older? What does it mean to age as a woman? How do we adjust our thinking about being in the world? What is our currency now?
Jacinta Parsons believes that midlife is a crucial reckoning with despair and hope, a time when you are naked in the centre of the world and no one notices or perhaps cares to look. Midlife is a time when you take stock—to look back and understand how you were made as a woman, and to look forward into the future, to see how you might unmake yourself to live the life that perhaps you should be living.

Wonderful book
I love this book so far, I'm about half way and am looking forward to listening to the rest. It is refreshing to hear an articulate Aussie narration. it's like listening to a friend. The content is something that has been swirling around my head and Jacinta has laid it out and made sense of things I was ashamed about. If you are wondering whether to get this book or not I highly recommend it. If nothing else it is so comforting to know I'm not alone.

Outstanding & thought-provoking
This is such an important book. As a 50 year old woman it speaks my own truth in ways I haven’t always found the ability to articulate even to myself yet. I cried at times when Jacinta spoke of truths I didn’t even know to be true for me until she said them.
Jacinta writes with a poetic beauty and accessibility, while also never shying away from topics that rarely (if ever) get spoken about.
This book is balanced, incisive, thought-provoking and beautifully mixes both academic research and anecdotal stories.
I am a huge fan of Jacinta Parsons in everything she does, and this is partly because she makes me think and consider things from different perspectives than those I currently hold. This book challenges me in parts, making me want to push back, but then I find myself getting a new perspective and being forced to think beyond my current paradigms. Evidence of a truly skilled writer!!
Looking forward to more work by the talented JP

A poignant reflection on what it means to be a woman through all stages of life and the importance of discovering our essential self and learning to listen just as society deems us redundant. Beautifully written.

Thought provoking,
Sometimes hard to listen to as it makes you question your own thoughts and ideas and prejudices. It did worry me that one generation has to make way for the next as if it is impossible we can occupy the same space. I refuse to become smaller or quieter as I age. We were told all our lives this is how we should be and we were sold down the river. Be yourself whoever that is loud, loved and valued. Thanks for this wonderful book that helped me entrench as well as question.

Not for me
I’m a 48 year old woman working in a male dominated industry of engineering and find the over-generalisations about males and females in this book too much. I haven’t experienced anything like what is described here. In fairness maybe the book got better, I listened for nearly half an hour and stopped.

I wanted to love this
I tried so hard to listen to this but found myself constantly rolling my eyes. The content was excellent and on point but it was so overwritten, so overly flowery that it lost its point. I just wanted to listen about women’s experiences of aging and I just couldn’t get through the overly flowery prose. If you like that style of writing - you will love this, it just was not for me.
