"جزء مؤلم من حكاية" روايةٌ غريبة تبدأ بأحداث غامضة في مكانٍ لا وجود له يدعى "مملكة قير".

تحمل الحكاية بعض سمات الرواية البوليسية إذ إننا إزاء بطل قاتل محترف وصاحبه "صانع التمائم" الذي يكلفه بمهام القتل تلك، لكن ورغم الجرائم المختلفة التي يقومون بها، إلا أن الراواية لا تسير على طريقة الروايات البوليسية في الإثارة والتشويق، على العكس من ذلك نتعرّف على كل جريمة من خلال الراوي، ويبقى في النهاية سره الأكبر و الجزء المؤلم الحقيقي في الحكاية هي المفاجأة التي يقدمها "أمير تاج السر" للقارئ في نهاية روايته، بعد أن استطاع أن يمسك بتلابيبه في تفاصيل الحكايات العديدة الأخرى التي تكشف عن طبيعة شخصية البطل وصاحبه، والشخصيات الثانوية المختلفة من حوله...

"منذ مدة وأنا أحلم بكتابة هذه الرواية، بعوالمها الغرائبية العنيفة، وشخوصها السايكوباتيين، وكونها تدور في عالم له أطره وقوانينه الخاصة، بعيدًا عن أي إحالات لأي كوابيس حديثة أو قديمة، الأحداث تدور في القرن السابع عشر، وتبدو شبيهة بزمن حدوثها".
