About this listen

Prophesized heroes are reborn. The burden they bear is as terrible as it is necessary.

The dead city of Mahadev. In 3,000 years, none who have entered those ageless walls have returned to bear word of what evil lurks within. And yet it is there that Cinder and Anya must journey. A hard road with mysteries and dangers abounding.

And the greatest of those perils is imprisoned within the ruined temple at the very center of the necropolis’ dark heart. There, Cinder and Anya are given insight into the terrifying truth the world faces. It is an evil so vast that even the dark god Shet must bow before its will. It is the bringer of apocalypse, the ender of civilizations. If ever freed, the world will be helpless before its horrific power.

Forging an alliance all would have rather avoided, Cinder and Anya have no choice but to work with Shet to take on this greater enemy. Worse, it is a pact that will see them give away that which they hold most precious.

The next book in the Instruments and Omens series and the next great chapter in the continuing adventures of the heroes from the original Castes and Outcastes series.

Nick Podehl knocks it out of the park with another fantastic performance.

If you enjoyed the last two books you will not be disappointed, but there are somewhat overdone lovey dovey sections in this book. In the context of Castes series it makes a lot of sense but I feel without prior context it may come across as over the top.

Either way though a solid entry in the series and looking forward to seeing what the next book has in store.

Enjoyed this, though is getting a little bit long winded and seems like just filling story at a few point. Still enjoyed it tho.

Another great read

I don't know what Nick Poedel was thinking when voicing one of the characters but my god the weird noise he makes drove me insane. I have enjoyed the story and pretty much everything else about this book and I definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys fantasy

Poedel doesn't do his best job on this one

I dont know how I kept listening for so long. I drive a lot and I paid for it i spose. The story and plot is painfully slow then all of a sudden memories are attained, and skills suddenly available, characters suddenly appear, demons and other enemies. the magic and world is never explained properly and the romance is so childish and cringey and there is almost no action. On top of this for a good section of the book the narrator has a bad cold and it sounds so nasally it was painful to listen to.
And why are there so many mentions of Indian food like tikka masala etc? it's random and childish. Verbal diarrhoea.

plot vomit and cringe romance

Performance is ok but not his best.
Story is long winded and the relationship between the main characters transitions from frustrating to cringe to annoying, unfortunate that it makes up the majority of the book.

Boring and cringe
