About this listen

A More Complete Beast is men's writer Jack Donovan's third book in a series that started with the runaway cult hit, The Way of Men. The second book, Becoming a Barbarian, showed disconnected modern men - men born into the anti-identity "Empire of Nothing" - how to think tribally.

In A More Complete Beast, Donovan picks up Friedrich Nietzsche's thoughts on nobility and master morality and uses them to guide men through an "upside-down" modern world, avoid the trap of hateful ressentiment, and overcome adversity through creativity.

In Donovan's hands, Nietzsche's words are rasps and chisels to help men refine a strength-based ethos, revealing their highest and noblest selves to become more complete men. And, as Nietzsche reminded us, man is a beast - so to become a more complete man is always to become a more complete beast.

Short and exciting, which makes for an easy read. I read this twice, once with a bit of a laugh, then again after reading 4 of Nietzsche's books. With a Nietzschean perspective, I found this 3rd book in Jack's series makes a decent case, or at least makes the case as convincingly as other thought leaders of our current age have made theirs.

The previous 2 books held wisdom, but mostly felt like a rage against globalism along with fantasizing about a time long past. A More Complete Beast helps reconcile the picture of masculinity painted in previous works with the reality of current cultural norms, and justify why one should actually bother to embrace such a challenging endeavour in spite of educational advice to the contrary.

Don't read the first 2 books without also reading this.

I’ve heard the others from his series. This is by far the best. My only lament is that it is toooo short. But man is it good, inspiring, moving, philosophical, poetic and confronting. Just incredible!

His best work yet

So much in point! A good follow-up of the previous work, as the work with the inner beast never stops. The book is humbling for me because I can see where I am forgetting about myself , as a real beast, a Good Man ! Thank you for your work ,Sir !

The book did one thing well, it doesn't mince words, Donovan promotes independence of external morality or societal conditioning. Recongnising we are social animals, and greatness and nobility is found when we take the role of a creator. Not necessary to be good at being a man, that would still be the tactical virtues but nonetheless a potent suggestion on becoming more then man. To legitimately become a force of strength and will which sparks change in the world.
