Publisher's Summary

Zane Hudson just got custody of his four young children. The only problem is, he can’t watch his kids and run his farm, too. He needs a permanent housekeeper. He has every intention of hiring someone until...

Inez Cromwell is two months behind on her rent and about to lose her house and her children. Getting stuck with handsome Zane Hudson and his four kids in the diner bathroom seems like the type of thing that was just her luck.

Except she emerges from that bathroom an engaged woman.

It’s a marriage of convenience only. Except after a hard day of work on the farm, they can’t help but look into each other’s eyes, the heads of their children between them, the notes of the music they make together fading off into the twilight, and wonder, separately, if the sweet life they’ve made together might be even more beautiful if they fell in love.

If you love toe-curling sweet romance, real, dynamic characters, and strong themes of faith and family, you will love Jessie Gussman's Cowboy Crossing series. A Marriage of Convenience in the Show Me State is the fifth book in the series.

Second chance

Waverley once asked Zane to marry her and he declined. Now she is a widower with six son and Zane is divorced with four daughter. Can Waverley say yes to Zane’s proposal and help him with the kids and the farm? Will Zane trust Waverley enough to fall in love with her? A sweet love and live story about love, faith, trust and honesty, the things that matter in a marriage. And Jay Dyess's voice turns an awesome story into an amazing one. The way he plays every character makes you feel all their emotions and their thougths in your head and in your heart. He is the best narrator ever for the best books you can listen to. The best match Jessie Gussmann and Jay Dyess

WOW Just WOW!

I absolutely loved this story. I've been reading in Jesse Gussman's newsletter how great a combination Jay and Jesse made with his narration of her stories. It's not that I didn't believe it is just that you have to hear Jay narrate the story to get the full effect. I'm totally blown away. I can't recommend this story read by Jay enough.

Outstanding!

Outstanding! Jay Dyess has simply blown me away! 10 different voices for children, besides Waverly. But what stold my heart is the true depth of emotion you could feel in Zane. Jay Dyess you outdid your self this time for sure! This is hands down my favorite! I was gifted this ARC Audiobook but it in no way effected my review. I highly recommend this audiobook and it's author Jessie Gussman as well as the narrator Jay Dyess. I give it a perfect 10!

Another wonderful book by Jessie Gussman

Jessie does it again. She continues to writes beautiful stories with real life struggles. In this book she clearly identifes past hurts in failed marriages and how those scars can be hard to overcome. Jessie has you laughing out loud with her creative storyline.

Jay is superb in his performance. He has the ability to make you feel as if you're watching everything in real-time. Jay has perfect timing delivering humor and provides the exact emotion for each every character.

Well done Jessie and Jay!

Love

A Marriage of Convenience in the Show Me State is a sweet and clean romance. I love the premise of this story and the characters are personable and invite the reader into the warmth of the setting....the phrase ‘down home goodness’ comes to mind. The children’s personalities are so lively and I appreciate how different each one is. The audio version is outstanding. I have run out of ways to say how much I enjoy Mr. Dyess’ performances (See? That sounds so bland!). I have yet to find anyone else comparable.

Spoiler free review

I loved this book when I read it, and I loved it even more after listening! Jay Dyess is so good at what he does. he's narrated every book in this series, and I practically hear his voice in my head when I read this author. the scenes of him singing are just so impressive. I almost feel like the author writes those type of scenes just to show off his skills!

Definately based on true marriage

The first few chapters describing how & where Zane & Waverly meet is unbelievable & made me laugh. Zane doesn't seem to know how to develop their marriage relationship even though this is a second marriage for him. I think everything Ms. Gussman wrote in the book is right on that men think all they need to do is work to provide the money to pay for things. They don't seem to understand how to meet their wife's needs. Of course, Mr. Dyess does his usual excellent job narrating. I really love to hear his voice. I was given a free audible. This is my voluntary opinion.

Locked in a Bathroom, Exit Engaged???

Jay Dyess is such and incredible narrator. He has done it again! He has such great voices for each character - the 10 kids, each parent and every other character that shows up in this book. Plus the story line is fantastic! My favorite parts are the singing in harmony parts and Zane trying to be romantic. It was hysterical and I couldn't quit laughing with my daughter as we listened. Thanks again, Jessie Gussman and Jay Dyess!

Blended families

I actually read this book first before listening to the audiobook. My heart went out for the characters right from the beginning. The struggle was so very real! I found it so amazing how two struggling single parents with each having such heavy, painful first marriages could come together and help each other out, while coming out to be a real, blended family. I love how Jay Dyess brought this story to life. The emotions and situations were made richer. I couldn’t help feel tingles and smile like a little girl or feel sad in some parts.

Excellent Feel Good Story

I am truly in awe of the performance of Jay Dyess especially during the songs and his unbelievable harmonizing as both a low male and medium ranged female voice. I applaud you, Jay. As always, I listen to the book with a smile on my face as I admire Jessie and her magical way of writing a story. Beautifully done!

Oh Em Gee my favorite book ever!

I love the trope about a marriage of convenience whether it be in a historical romance or in one of Jessie‘s books, but this one really took it and raise the bar. This book was so good I could tell you the summary of how Zane in Waverley I got stuck in the bathroom together after an 18 wheeler ran into the side of the building and had to sit there all night him with his two girls he had with them and her with her three boys and her by the end they agreed to marry to make each others life easier, but just a marriage of convenience not love just friendship… At least that is what Waverley agrees to that first that is exactly what Zane believes will happen. And I can also tell you how the first night after realizing he actually has four girls and how she actually has six boys and in the process of introducing them he feels his first spark of something besides friendship towards Waverley. I could also tell you how great Jay dice did in the narration, but I would rather tell you you really should get this but I highly recommend that it is one of Jessie‘s best if not her best for those who are a fan Jay sings in this one… Yay! So see there are many reasons to get this book into those who read this preview it go so what oh who cares if Jay thinks it could only be because you haven’t heard him saying for one and two you’ve never read Jessie Gussman and Jay dice collaboration. It is the best an audio you can ever get. It doesn’t get any better in my opinion the best is this book!
