About this listen
Aisling Smith is about to try out for a new job - a job writing for a paper she's never heard of. But seeing as she's currently writing classified ads and obituaries, it would be foolish not to give it a shot.
Riddler's Edge might be a small town, but it's definitely not boring. Her train hasn't even pulled into the station, and already a woman has been murdered. According to the grumpy but gorgeous Detective Quinn, the passenger's death wasn't a murder at all. He insists that Bathsheba Brookes died of a nut allergy.
Aisling doesn't believe it for a minute. She intends to discover the real story - a difficult challenge, considering the town's inhabitants seem to be keeping some very big secrets. Even if she gets to the bottom of Bathsheba's death, Aisling might not get to be the Daily Riddler's newest reporter. There's one final, mysterious test that she must pass - a test carried out by the newspaper's owner. And Aisling suspects he might be looking for more than just a journalist....

The narrator was fantastic. I loved her speaking voice and ability to differentiate between people while layering in energy to bring them to life. She added to the humour of many scenes with her comedic timing.
The Irish setting is not common so that was fun, as were the quirky characters who all managed to hold the spotlight to some degree in this murder mystery. The way Aisling, the FMC, shared her obsession with sexy lighthouses/how sexy lighthouse keepers with bare feet were was hilarious! In fact, there were quite a few laugh out loud moments, but they were well balanced with scenes of frustration and grief and finding your place.
I liked the magic of the community and it's inhabitants, in particular how a wizard combined his technical and magical skills to help the investigation progress.
The story moved along well and I felt invested in so many of the cast. I am excited to begin the next in the series.
A lot to enjoy
