About this listen

Meet Willa Waters, aged 8...33...and 93.

1965. Eight-year-old Willa receives a mysterious box containing a jar of water and the instruction: ‘One ocean: plant in the backyard.’ So she does - and somehow creates a time-slip that allows her to visit her future selves.

1990. Willa is 33-year-old mother when her childhood self appears in her backyard. She’s also a woman haunted by dark memories and is on the brink of a decision that will have tragic repercussions.

2050. Willa is a gumboot-loving 93-year-old whose memory is fading fast. Yet she knows there is a warning she must give her past selves about a terrible event in 1990. If only she could recall what it was.

Can the three Willas come together, to heal their past and save their future, before it’s too late?

Narrated so well that someone might think there's more than one person talking. She must be a voice actor. Loved her.
The book itself is actually quite different to what I thought it would be about. I didn't expect much from reading the blurb but what I got was something so beautiful and creative, poetic and emotional. Loved the storytelling by the author. Its not your typical time travel novel - it focus' more on the human mind and life in general. How people live their lives, and viewing your life from all angles/times.
The only downside for me was the main character sometimes annoyed me with things she said and did (all 3 of them), but that's just a personal thing. But that doesn't take away from the experience. Brilliant book, highly recommend.

wonderfully narrated with distinctive voices, important for this story told through multiple ages of the same character. story itself took a while to get into, bit worth sticking with it. a lovely tale exploring how our 'self' changes over time and what it takes to heal

magical tale of healing

What a beautiful book. Raw and heartbreaking but a story of strength and courage. And an absolutely amazing narration! Wow. Highly recommend.

The language is poetry. The story is a tragedy but moments of humour keep you rolling along. I found myself in tears many times but it is a story that needed to be told and shared.

I found this book like nothing I have ever heard before. Sometimes sad but I couldn’t stop listening. It is a very touching story about a not so perfect life and how to do what is needed to make the most of it. I will listen to it again one day. Very thought provoking.

The author uses a "time slip" device to create engagement between three stages of her character's life in order to face and resolve childhood trauma.
Written with sensitivity and insight, it left me (a 68 year old male) choked with emotion.
We'll done, Tabitha!
