Publisher's Summary

Kate Atkinson’s dazzling Life After Life, one of the top-selling adult books of 2014, explored the possibility of infinite chances, as Ursula Todd lived through the turbulent events of the last century again and again.

In A God in Ruins, Atkinson turns her focus on Ursula’s beloved younger brother, Teddy - would-be poet, RAF bomber pilot, husband, and father - as he navigates the perils and progress of the 20th century. For all Teddy endures in battle, his greatest challenge will be to face living in a future he never expected to have.

A God in Ruins is a masterful companion to Life After Life and will prove once again that Kate Atkinson is one of the finest novelists of our age.

wow!

I loved this book. In the author's note Kate Atkinson states it is just fiction but this book is so much more. It took me a couple of hours to work out why I was listening and if I would continue but I grew to love Edward Todd and his family, even Viola. This is a gentle story of an ordinary man doing his best with life circumstances with many lessons about relationships. Narration was perfect for Ted and his time.

Teddy and Nancy story after the war

I enjoyed it, but wasn’t as satisfying as Life after Life it’s companion book written before it.
A slow burn book.

Essential Epigrams from World War II

Not up to the sparkling descriptions of war time London, a stunning war story of loss.

Perfect sequel

Kate Atkinson draws you into her books and this was no different. Life after life was thought provoking and A god in ruins was too. Both novels weaved together and enriched the story.

Utterly Captivating

If anything better than Life After Life. Teddy is one of the best characters I have read. A piece of writing by someone really in command of the art. Superbly read by Alex Jennings. Highly recommend this book.

Flawed.

Spoilt by the amateurish and exaggerated attempt at an Australian accent, for two of the characters.

Reading the actual book would be better

I purchased this after listening to Life after life. Thoroughly enjoyed Life after life.

The story line is actually quite fascinating but I find it quite difficult to stay on track while listening to the audio book as it felt like it kept jumping from one part of Teddy's life to another part without warning. It was much more clearer when I was listening to life after life. I would highly recommend reading the actual book as you can turn the pages and refer to the previous chapters. I would definitely still purchase Kate's next book.
