Story
The call-out for the double homicide, when it comes, is a strange one: two men gunned down in a motel room, no witnesses, no real clues. Even stranger, the men were enemies, and no one seems to know why they were in that motel room together. Hazard and Somers set out to learn what happened, but they quickly find themselves mired in shifting factions: the ultraconservative political machine of the Ozark Volunteers; a liberal activist group protesting the local gun show; a reclusive fundamentalist church; even a hint of Mexican drug cartels.

Publisher's Summary
Over a century ago Illusionist David Berkeley committed suicide in his mansion by the sea, thus dooming his restless spirit to wander forever. Or so the local legend goes. Professor Rhys Davies, a part-time parapsychologist, is writing a book on California hauntings and he believes the crumbling ruins of Berkeley House will make a terrific chapter - if he can gain access to the house and grounds. The only obstacle is brooding cop and self-appointed caretaker, Sam Devlin. As obstacles go, Devlin is a big one. But you know what they say. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Better the second time
Normally I am a great fan of Josh Lanyon and Kevin R. Free, this time however, I struggled to get through. I don't remember listening to most of it.
I did re-listen on a short trip I took and was able to appreciate this audiobook more. Don't use a credit on it.

Another paranormal thriller!
I've been eagerly awaiting another Josh Lanyon paranormal thriller since "The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks" (one of my all time favorites). Although short, this new story was a classic JL romance with some spooky overtones. As usual JL masterfully handles the romantic tensions between the main characters while also building interest in the premise of the story (the haunted mansion). The characters have back stories and are as charming (or roguish in the case of Sam Devlin) as usual. I liked this story a lot, the only complaint was that it was too short, which is understandable as it was part of a compilation. But I can see the possibility of a sequel, or even a series??? (Oh please tell me there is another book coming!)

Great Spooky Story
Another winner by Josh Lanyon and Kevin Free. This is a wonderful, spooky short story with a HFN romance. I listened to it in one sitting and was enthralled the whole time. The only bad thing is that it wasn't longer. I would love a sequel as it ends on a twilight zone type ending. Worth a credit.

Great story
Josh Lanyon does it again, this time in ghostly style.
You cannot go wrong with any of his novels, and the synopsis does the story justice without giving anything away.
And I really love the fact that Josh has a hand in picking the narrators for his books so your hearing the story how the author wants the characters to sound.
I will reread / re-listen to any of Josh's books anytime. Not really a HEA author but always ends his stories in a satisfying way.

Cute and Spooky
A short story that introduces us to two characters with different beliefs and ideas in a short time where more things will happen than we can tell.
Rhys believes in the supernatural and wants to discover somehow the secrets of a house famous for tragic stories. The current resident gives Rhys that opportunity - while he's away travelling. Excited for the weekend - adventure and discovery, his enthusiasm disappears when Sam is also in the house. Sam is the owner's nephew and a cop who doesn't believe in the supernatural, much less in horror stories. More than that, he doesn't seem like a friendly and welcoming person at all.
Rhys and Sam will have to come to some deal to be able to hang out in the same house for the weekend. And the way it happens is exciting and fun. And a little hot.
It's such a small story that it leaves us wanting more. I've already started to get used to the author's writing and way of writing, and that's why I'm not so surprised by the speed of things, but I like it anyway. I'm enjoying getting to know this author's stories, and whether they are small or not, I will continue to read and get to know the multiple universes presented to us. I read it with audiobook, and Kevin R. Free's good as always.

Ghosts and love
I had read the book some time ago and it was surprisingly nice to listen to the story after a while. A love story between a history professor chasing ghosts and a cop on leave is the background of this hunt. The narration is very clear and nicely done but the level difference between the two voices was annoying as was the beginning of the sentences regularly much louder than the end.

Wanted a ghost story... got Broke Back Mountain with a hint of ghosts. The ghost story was iŕrelevant. Not interested in gay porn, thanks. Kept hoping it would get better & more about the haunting...Conclusion of story was so weak. Absolutely rubbish.
