Mary and Ruth are the best of friends. Ruth leaves their village to work for a year at her relatives farm in the community on the other side of Town. Whilst away Ruth falls in love with a young man at the village, but is unsure if he feels the same way? Mary misses her friend very much and becomes lonesome after her Mother dies in a farming accident. Mary has a chance encounter in town with an Amish boy from another community, and she falls hopelessly in love with him. It “appears” he has similar feelings but is not sure.
