About this listen

HBO’s hit series A GAME OF THRONES is based on George R. R. Martin’s internationally bestselling series A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE, the greatest fantasy epic of the modern age. A FEAST FOR CROWS is the fourth volume in the series.

The Lannisters are in power on the Iron Throne.

The war in the Seven Kingdoms has burned itself out, but in its bitter aftermath new conflicts spark to life. The Martells of Dorne and the Starks of Winterfell seek vengeance for their dead. Euron Crow’s Eye, as black a pirate as ever raised a sail, returns from the smoking ruins of Valyria to claim the Iron Isles.

From the icy north, where Others threaten the Wall, apprentice Maester Samwell Tarly brings a mysterious babe in arms to the Citadel. As plots, intrigue and battle threaten to engulf Westeros, victory will go to the men and women possessed of the coldest steel and the coldest hearts.

Critic Reviews

"Fantasy literature has never shied away from grandeur, but the sheer mind-boggling scope of this epic has sent other fantasy writers away shaking their heads… Its ambition: to construct the Twelve Caesars of fantasy fiction, with characters so venomous they could eat the Borgias." ( Guardian)
"Truly epic...with its magnificent action-filled climax, it provides a banquet for fantasy lovers with large appetites." ( Publishers Weekly)

this was my first audio book. I have read several game of thrones books and I am familiar with the narrative and characters.

at first I was not a fan of Roy Dotrice, but looking back I think he does a great job. at times I had imagined characters voices differently when I read prior books in the series (Brienne as an example). However, a narrator must interpret the material as well as read, and this is the nature is the medium. The narrator manages many different characters well and remains engaging throughout.

overall, this a great novel, and a very good reading. highly recommended.

a great audio book.

I found it super frustrating that this narration (same reader as previous books) had places and names pronounced different such as Catlyn to Kaitlyn.
Diffferent character voices were also given to Arya and Little Finger which doesn't match their characters (Arya has a strong accent but her sister Sansa doesnt?? neither does Jon her half brother and they all grew up together) .. these things are super important in a audio book series and would draw my attention immediately.

Inaccurate pronunciation takes away from the story

Roy Dotrice does complete justice to this epic story - he brings this world and its characters to life.

Loved It!

This series is fantastic in audio book form. The narration is somewhat insane, with voices for each character changing from book to book, but for me this added to the entertainment!

Excellent and hilarious

I don’t know why this story wasn’t as engaging as the first three. I had to look up the narrator when I first started listening because I thought it was the wrong book I purchased. It was very are to listen to but powered through it! Excited to see what the next book has in store!

Good book, terrible narration

Loved the story, however the pronunciation of names varied from the previous books. Voices of the characters were also different. I got used to it but it really bothered me at the start.

Inconsistent pronunciation

George R.R. Martin’s weakest book in terms of delivering the goods in comparison to a storm of swords. But it makes up for that in world building, characterisation and hype building.
Starting a dance with dragons almost immediately after finishing this one
