wrong and dumb in so many ways....

He's on revenge mode because of some comments that happened years ago. He will resort to killing. Wow! Talk about a mountain out of a molehill. His over-reactive behavior is repulsive. He could have had her in a 100 different ways. Like... ask her out for a date... duh!! After all, she liked him too. Kidnapping, imprisoning and marring is the best he could do??? He captures her with the threat to kill her father. She has to comply to his sexual demands. So much for romance. Father sells his daughter. Brother is okay with this. So much for family love. She can escape but is wishy washy. Oh, I wanted to slap this woman! If only I could. Her internal dialog is that of a bimbo. This is the worst part of the book. This is a duet narration. A bit different from what I'm used to. Regardless, the narration is done well. Sure it ends with a cliffhanger. I'll pass on the next book. I think I'm okay with that because these two aren't going to get any smarter.

Loved this book

Loved Easton & Charlotte. Danger, twisted, action, dark, disturbing, steamy, sexy and so good. I didn’t want to stop listening to this book because it was just that amazing. Be aware there is a cliffhanger. Once again Kai & Wen knocked it out of the park with their amazing narration of this book.

Interesting ......

It's an interesting plot. Forced marriage without any mafia themes. They liked each other as kids but he wasnt good enough for her dad. But now he paid her father's debt for her hand in n marriage and her dad had no problem with it. Her life as she knew it was over. Easton's dad died because of her dad and he wants to ruin her dad through her love for him .......but it ends in a cliffhanger before that can happen.

What did I just read/listen to?

What attracted me to the book is the girl on the cover with her purple hair which is actually pink in the book. The whole story, however, doesn't make sense. Easton creeped me out BIG TIME... I couldn't help but imagine him as Julia Roberts husband in Sleeping with the Enemy with the whole "princess" shit. Charlotte, on the other hand, doesn't feel 28, she feels like she's 18. I was truly expecting her to shoot him by the end. Charlotte is the daughter of a rich hotelier, he hires a chef who had an only son named Easton, Easton falls for Charlotte the moment he sees her at her father's latest wedding. She is attracted to him too but her father has a no dating rule, he is saving her virginity to the highest bidder, as a last resort chip. Easton grows up and becomes mean, rich and someone without any moral compass, he was into making cocktails and is the owner of many bars around the world. He waits for Charlotte's father to fall, because to him her father worked his father to death (eyes rolling) so when the opportunity arrives, he BUYS Charlotte from her father so he cleans his debts and saves his own life... BUYS HER! I mean WTF?!?! He wants her so badly and has been spying on her in her own apartment for years (the creep) and now he marries her because she is "his property" and "his princess" and he's going to teach her to "obey him" and that will destroy her stupid father... as if! I mean, I just don't know what I read.

Reviewed by Fantasy Land Blog

The first thing I have to say about A Debt Owed is that I finally got what I always wanted. The narrators switching off back and forth in the chapters! I have wanted a book to do that for so long that it makes the book seamless! Kai and Wen are flawless in A Debt Owed. I read the book when it first came out and I don't ever have a voice in my head when I read books but these two do it great. Kai brings Charlotte to life with the innocence you expect when Easton (Wen) comes back into her life after years. But when Charlotte needs to fight and regain the strength to fight off Easton's plan Kai brings that out when needed. I couldn't stop listening to this audio and was happy to hear it.

Wow!!!

Wow!!! What a dark twisted book. Easton has worked his way up in life to be where he is at today. Charlotte's dad owes a debt to Easton & they decide that Charlotte will be the way to pay the debt back. Charlotte's whole world is about to change with Easton. This is definitely an enemies to lovers book. I can't wait to see where the next book takes them. Clarissa Wild writes a very good & unique story that hooked me from the start. Now add Kai Kennicott & Wen Ross for narration & now you have an smoking hot audiobook. They bring the book to life. You can chemistry that is portrayed throughout the story. I can't wait to listen to the next book. Loved it!

Fantastic Book!

This book has all the elements I enjoy in a dark romance; the struggle for submission, angst, strong heroine and plenty of steamy scenes. The narrators kept me interested. Their performances were outstanding. I enjoyed the male narrator speaking as Easton and the female aa Charlotte. This book ends in a cliffhanger. i look forward to listening to the next book to find out what happens with Easton and Charlotte. Will she ever accept him as her husband.

Mediocre

In all intent and purposes this has the ingredients of a dark romance. The alpha male Eastern, is dark but not dark enough, softens far too quickly for Charlotte, the heroine who grates me. Charlotte is feisty which I like in a heroine but for some reason I can't connect with her. She sees Eastern as her tormentor however he doesn't force himself on her; she only has to seductively lick her lips to get whatever she wants. Eastern has learned everything she likes from food, to reading material to perfume. Ok she doesn't have her freedom but I'm sure she would if he was confident she wouldn't run! She comes across as a spoilt brat. The chemistry between them is mediocre at best. All in all its just lack lustre, ingredients are there but the recipe for a great dark romance is not. I will read the final instalment just to see it through to the bitter end.

Keeps you on your toes!

A great start to such an interesting story. Love the dialogue between the main characters and the woman is adorably sassy, abrupt and rude. The man is a brute and so sexy in what he says and does!! What a combination. Great read.

Unbelievably amazing

This is one of those books that doesn’t let you rest the whole time you are reading. It’s full of twists turns and ups and downs. Did I love this book? Yes, do I need to re listen to this book to fully capture everything that occurred? Yes. There are so many emotions brought forward I think this is my favourite of Clarissas books to date

Struggled with certain areas

Ok, this is quite a difficult review, as although I loved the idea of the storyline and generally enjoy some dark romance, the cut off line between what I enjoy listening to, and what disturbs me can be very fine. I know this, yet seem to keep getting drawn to these books again. I listened to both books in the duet before leaving my review and I have to admit I prefer the second one. I really struggle with cruelty for the sake of it, even when the party's involved seem to derive enjoyment. Easterns drive for vengeance (although understandable) and the way he cruelly treated Charlotte in his quest for this vengeance is what I struggled with, although at the same time found I was drawn to listen to the book was found it very emotive. I did give in listening at one point, although curiosity and intrigue led me to pick it back up and carry on with it.

revenge and resistance with fantastic narration

Rating: story 4.25, narration 5 I listened to the audio version of this and I have say the two narrators were excellent! What was also different was when it was Eastons pov (wow his voice) if Charlotte spoke, the female narrator said her words and vice versa. I've not heard narration done like that before and I loved it! Easton is a grade A a-hole out for revenge. He's so bitter and wants to destroy Charlotte's father, so takes his daughter against her will as payment for his debt. I totally understand his quest for revenge against Charlotte's father, but Charlotte herself? That "incident" has festered out of control into a big messy open wound that I'm not sure can heal, unless Easton can allow the defenses around his heart to crumble and let out the softer side from his youth (if it still exists) and admit he went about things all wrong with Charlotte. Charlotte is a strong, feisty, sassy woman but fairly innocent to the ways of the world. She's been betrayed in the worst way by the one person who is supposed to love her unconditionally, her father. She's not about to lie down and submit though and fights Easton all the way, despite the attraction her body feels but her mind hates. I really liked her. I have the audible only so can't give the exact quote, but Charlotte says words to the effect of: ...You want my love but you give me nothing of yourself to love.... And that is what I love most about these type of storylines, the moment when the guy realises he wants her happiness and her love given freely, the hate, the revenge just doesn't matter anymore. Redemption is sweet! That is what I'm really hoping for in book two, because I have to be honest, I don't like Easton very much at the moment. I'm sure there's a smidgen of nice human being there, but he's playing hard to get! This is an enemies to.....well I can't say lovers yet because there is still a lot of hate going on, despite their combustable chemistry. I really liked the story though, I looked forward to listening to more each mornin for the journey to work, but whoa, that ending!....it's a cliffhanger, so I'm going straight on to book two, I need to know how this plays out!! Go Charlotte, bring that man to his knees 😉

A dark romance

A really engaging story from Clarissa Wild, this is a dark suspenseful audiobook. This story moved along really well. There were flashbacks between the past and present with the story continuously developing. Charlotte was an amazing woman. She is so well written. She is strong and fiesty, clever and always looking for a way out. Easton on the other hand, was dark, foreboding, devious and thoroughly unlikeable. He was also truly arrogant and that was a weakness that Charlotte was able to exploit to perfection. The author really developed these characters so well. This story ended on a cliffhanger for a second part, but also in a way felt like a complete novel. I also have to add that I thought the narration was excellent. It was dual narration, but each narrator spoke their own parts in conversation with each other, and that really added to the experience for me. Additionally I felt the narrators really embodied the characters superbly.

gripping

Another brilliant book by Clarissa wild ! This book had me hooked straight away , I loved the little back story we got and even tho I do feel bad for Charlotte as really she didn't do anything to deserve what's happening to her I really like Easton and hes not the bad character hes made out to be , the whole storyline just kept me gripped and wanting more the whole time, it kind of ends on a cliffhanger but nothing massive but I absolutely cannot wait for book 2 , its going to be amazing I read this first but listening to it brings it to a whole new level , the narrators just really bring this story to life , whether u read to it or listen to it it's an absolute must have
