About this listen

The thrilling finale to the instant No. 1
Sunday Times bestseller A Fate Inked in Blood.

A shield maiden fights to break the hackles of prophecy - and to overcome betrayal of the man who broke her heart - in this searing conclusion to the Norse-inspired fantasy romance duology that began with the No. 1 Sunday Times bestselling A Fate Inked in Blood.

With the secret of her divine heritage revealed, Freya finds herself on a path that could see thousands of lives lost to the magic in her blood. Desperate to avoid this dark fate, she risks an alliance with Skaland's greatest enemy to seek answers from the seer who foretold her future - the same seer who sent Bjorn to kill her.

While Freya still seethes with rage over Bjorn's betrayal, the blood oaths that bind her demand that she keep him close as she hunts for a way to avert the looming war. Her magic draws her to the front lines of an old enmity, embroiling her with Nordeland's Unfated - children of the gods who serve the king she was raised to fear. The same king who, unlike Bjorn, is now willing to fight at her back. For despite the desire that burns hot between Bjorn and Freya, his growing distrust of her chosen path threatens to drag them further apart.

As war approaches, gods and mortals must choose their weapons. Yet the fiercest battle will be the one Freya wages within herself. With the magic of two goddesses burning in her veins, she must weave the threads of destiny to decide her own fate: Will she be the shield that protects her people or the curse that destroys them?

I absolutely loved this book, the world, the characters. Impeccable. The Viking inspired world and lore was fantastic

Somehow better than the first

I absolutely loved the first book and was so excited for this one but I really struggled. The story line was great the twist and turns amazing, the narration i could not cope with.

I had to go back a few times and re listen to some chapters as I feel the female narrator was really putting on the Nordic accent. It was way too much especially compared to book 1.

The roll of the tongue when pronouncing Freya's name just gave me the ick.

Overall the story itself was great and loved the dynamics between realms and the gods. I just wished the narrators toned it down a bit.

Is this really the end of Freya and Bjorn's story? 🤧

Because I wouldn't object to another book or novella about them.

It took a while to get back into the story due to the unfamiliar words and scene setting. Once it got going though I really enjoyed it and it wrapped up the overall storyline nicely. Narrators were great

Slow start but finishes strong

A stunning conclusion to the Saga of the Unfated duology.
Danielle L. Jensen delivers once again with exceptional storytelling, immersive world-building, sharp banter, and a rich tapestry of Norse mythology. I was eagerly awaiting this sequel after devouring A Fate Inked in Blood and falling in love with Freya and Bjorn—and it exceeded all expectations. The emotional stakes, mythological depth, and vivid writing make this an unforgettable read. If you’re a fan of Viking lore and myth-inspired fantasy, this series is an absolute must. The narrators are also phenomenal, adding even more depth to an already captivating story.

Tropes:
Norse inspired romantasy
Gods and power
Fierce FMC
Betrayals
Fate
Gore including mention of cannibalism

I feel this book could have been half the length, indeed I skipped a few chapters (as both MC’s moaned on and on about decisions and guilt and anxiety) and I don’t think I missed much of the story.
The FMC Freya is annoying and full of blind rage. Will anyone ever write a heroic FMC who is steady, thoughtful and self aware with a high EQ?
I really liked the narration tho
