Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Corinne Michaels returns to the Willow Creek Valley series in this stunning small town/fake marriage romance.

My marriage started as a lie. But some lies are worth telling.

My father’s dying wish was to walk me down the aisle, and I’d do anything for him, even marry a man I don’t love. So when my fiancé jilts me only days before the ceremony, I turn to my college friend, Oliver Parkerson, and convince him to marry me. My family hasn’t met either man, so I’m confident we can pull this off. But the feelings, our touches, the way my heart beats for him - none of it feels pretend. The way he holds me at night and carries me through loss tells me he’s not acting either.

I didn't mean to fall for my fake husband, but real love was the one thing I couldn't predict. Except, nothing built on lies can last - I know that better than anyone. But the truth might tear us apart forever.

Emotional and sexy

I've been waiting for Michaels to change up her formula of endless second chance romances (with gorgeous brown-haired clones on the covers), so this was a breath of fresh air. This fake relationship/marriage of convenience romance was just what I was looking for from the author - still an angst fest, but with an element of surprise - and it had a twist I didn't even see coming. The fast-paced, sexy, and emotional story held my interest the whole way through, and the great audio performances certainly made this bingeable. I read it in one sitting, and it has renewed my interest in the veteran author's work.

The story follows Maren, a woman whose father is dying. He's been battling cancer for years, and it's now time to accept that the end is near. So when he mentions how much he's looking forward to Maren's wedding, she doesn't have the heart to tell him that it's been called off. Her boyfriend rushed a proposal before they'd even exchanged those three little words, and Maren soon realizes that she's more disappointed that her father won't be around for her big day than she is that the relationship is over. In an act of desperation, Maren finds a replacement who has the same first name as her disappearing groom - her best friend's ex, an old college friend she hasn't seen in years. They agree to have a wedding ceremony without actually making things official, but things quickly spiral out of control. Now the replacement groom seems like the perfect guy, but he's not willing to be a woman's second choice ever again.

I really loved Oliver, he's a relationship guy who has put his heart on the line one too many times. He doesn't want to get hurt again, and he knows that he's quite literally Maren's second choice groom, so even the sparks that fly between them aren't enough to give him hope. I loved how easy and right things were between them, even as everything else was spiraling. It's an angst-heavy romance that focuses as much on the drama as it does on the budding relationship, and there are some heartfelt family moments. If the loss of a loved one or cancer are triggers for you, then you might want to sit this one out - there's a strong focus on Maren's father and her grief. Yeah, there are some lighthearted and sexy moments between Maren and Oliver, but the story itself is pretty emotional. I loved the twists and turns, and how it felt fresh even while playing up the tropes. I've always been a fan of Michaels' writing skill - even if I was burned out by the many second chance romances - so it was no surprise that the story kept me hooked. If you're in the mood for something that'll break your heart a little bit while also mending it together, then this is a very solid read.

Audio note: The audio was excellent! I turned it on at the start of the workday and the epilogue was playing when I logged off for the night. Perfect. The audio performances held my interest all day long, and they're two of my favorite narrators - Zachary Webber's low, gruff voice is so endlessly soothing, and I've grown to love Vanessa Edwin's voice as well. Only a duet performance could've made it better. The emotional story was definitely enhanced by their performances, and they made this even more compelling. It's actually a pretty great listen for the office - not only is the 8ish hour runtime the perfect length, but it takes awhile before things heat up, and the steamy scenes are brief. You could feel the emotion in the performance, and I think I liked this even better because I was listening.

Amazing

Let's talk about Oliver. There was a conversation between Sydney and Devney in Fight for Us, where Oliver only takes Devney on a date once a month. For some reason, this rubbed me the wrong way and unlike everyone else, I was not a fan of Oliver. Corinne worked her magic and now I too am in love. Oliver was the fun sibling in the last few books, but really shined once Maren walked into his life. It might have taken some coaxing from his twin, Stella, convincing Ollie to do the honorable thing and be the good guy again and help Maren. It didn't take Oliver much convincing though as he was drawn to Maren the moment she got out of the car. Oliver & Maren had so much chemistry right from the get-go and pretending to be in love only made it more obvious to everyone. Ollie's siblings saw it right away, Maren's dad knew the moment he met Oliver he was her soulmate, it just takes these two a little longer to admit it. How many couples finally decide on their wedding night, that maybe they should give this dating thing a chance? Well Olliver and Mare of course!!!! A quick honeymoon and a little work from the most Reverend Father Marc's wife, Charlie, filing their marriage license, leaves the couple happily married and living happily ever after........ Not so quick, this is a Corinne Michaels book! Guess you will have to one click the book to see how your heart is broken or healed again!

A Beautiful Love Story!

My queen of emotional heartbreak is back at it! I mean leave it to Corinne Michaels to punch me in the feels in the first few chapters. From there, the journey she takes me on is one full of the unexpected. Her words are powerfully emotive and this story was unputdownable.
At one scene, I literally stopped what I was doing and clutched my chest because I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I literally stated out loud, “I can’t believe Corinne is doing this to me.” She pushes you to the emotionally limit so get your heart ready. Oliver and Maren’s story was one I devoured with vigor from beginning to end. That bonus epilogue was everything. It is a bittersweet feeling because while I was eager to have this final book, I’m not ready to say goodbye to this family. Zachary Webber and Vanessa Edwin as usual didn’t disappoint.

Such a perfect ending to this series!

“Before her, I never knew love like this, and I am going to hold on to it with both hands.”
.
Review: Oh my gosh where do I even begin with this book! This is book 4, and the final book in the Willow Creek Valley series. I absolutely love this series and would recommend reading them in order, but they can be read as standalones. It's bittersweet for the last book in a series. I couldn't wait to read Oliver's book, but it also means it's the end of this families stories. I have loved Oliver since the beginning. He's the fun loving sibling who will always make you laugh. He doesn't take life too seriously and can always make you smile. We always know there is more under the surface though. Oh Oliver! I love this man. After two failed engagements he has sworn off love and my heart breaks for him. He would do anything for those he loves and cares for. The man has the biggest heart of gold.

“To the women before me who broke this man’s heart, you’re stupid, and I thank you for it.”

Maren is his perfect fit. She wants to give her father his last dying wish and asks Oliver to help her with it when her world shifts. These two are so selfless and they deserved nothing but the best and to find their other half. I loved their story and their journey. I am crying as I type my review. I loved their path even though it took a twist I wasn't expecting. Which only made me love them more. I love this family and I don't want to say goodbye. I loved getting so much of the Parkerson siblings and getting to see where they are at today. The banter between these siblings is the best. I wish I was a Parkerson sibling! I listened to the audiobook by Vanessa Edwin and Zachary Webber. They were both perfect bringing Maren and Oliver to life. Zachary was such a perfect Oliver. I will definitely be listening to this book again! DO NOT MISS THIS BOOK or this series! HIGHLY recommend!

Two Words: Mark Dixon!

I loved this book and the fact that characters from the Salvation Series made their way to this book! Mark officiating was everything! I literally burst out laughing, like I’ve known him for years and expected nothing less from him at a wedding. I couldn’t wait fir the release of this book and it did not disappoint! It’s taken awhile to get used to Vanessa’s voice. At first I wasn’t excited she was narrating because she is very nasally, a vast difference from Andi. But I was desperate to hear this book so onward I went. I actually liked her voice later on, like 5 hours in, lol. But it was a great listen overall. I’m just about done with every single book from CM and will probably be borderline stalker like Kathy Bates in Misery when the book ends. 🤣 jk Love CM and on the mailing lists, waiting for all the releases! Great book!!

Nice guy Oliver does a solid for a college friend

Ollie Parkerson first appeared in Michaels’ earlier Arrowood Brother series as the sweet boyfriend who eventually gets jilted by Devney in favor of Luke Arrowood. He finally gets his own, well deserved HEA but not without a bit of drama and a major health scare. As a twin and younger brother he was present for much of the Willow Creek series and since the epilogue gives away brother Alex’s HEA this may be the last book in this series which would be a shame as the family feel like friends. Maybe the kids will have their own books. This story also brings in characters from the Salvation series as the heroine, Marrin, is one of their employees and a jilted bride in need of a favor. She is both gutsy and insensitive to request a fake wedding out of an old college friend with his history, especially knowing her maid of honor is his former girl friendeven if she has a good reason. Other than that move she is a very whiney, indecisive character who may be very beautiful and caring of her dying parent, but doesn’t appear worthy of the noble Oliver. You would think she could pull it together enough to pitch in for the resort opening if only for the distraction. So while I found this story interesting, I felt the heroine was a bit too self absorbed to illicit much sympathy. Much of the true emotion in this story was from Ollie’s struggles and the supporting characters provide a lot of the interest and enjoyment in the book. In fact I would have loved seeing more of these earlier characters.
The narration was excellent and the pacing worked fairly well with only a few slow spots. Worth a credit and more than worthwhile to fans of Michaels earlier books.

A Nice Ending

First of all, the narrators hit it out of the ballpark. They were perfection. Their voices for Oliver and Maren made the characters seem more real and come to life. Zachary is one of my favorite male narrators and I could listen to him read all day.

Secondly, I thought the story was a little crazy because who in their right mind would do something like that? But, this isn’t real life and the storyline for me was magical. Who doesn’t want to fall in love with somebody as funny and kind as Oliver? The relationship that Maren had with her father was so precious. I had a hard time not crying over his sickness.

The one thing I’m a little disappointed in is the fact that we won’t get to hear what happens to Alex. I don’t even know why she created him when she has books on all the brothers and sister except for Alex. That’s my only complaint. I’m still going to give it 15 stars.

A GOOD FAKE-TO-FOREVER WITH FEELS

Maren and Oliver’s story started out as fake and I do love a good fake romance where there’s a crossing of boundaries, emotional insecurities and misunderstanding and the sweet and sour slow stepping stones to love. There’s is a sweet journey initially done to give Maren’s beloved dying Father the opportunity of walking his girl down the aisle.. but it’s a slow-burn to real for the damaged hero and his very grateful bride. There’s light and fun as flirts become flames.. there’s happiness, heartbreak and hiccups along the way.. and there’s a happy ending for these two deserving people.

Worth a credit? Yes it’s a very enjoyable ‘family is everything’ story, it nicely ends the series and the dual POV narration by Vanessa and Zachary brings the tender, the touching, the teary and the torn feels to life.

The long awaited story of Oliver!

I absolutely loved everything about this book! I fell for Oliver long ago in the arrowood series and have been anxiously awaiting his story. Let me tell you this did not disappoint one bit! I loved Marin for him and watch them fall in love ❤️ it was so amazing seeing all of the characters from salvation again… now I feel like I need a reread of that series since it’s been so long since I was with those guys! There are a few more story possibilities I see maybe blooming if not by Corinne it will be in my mind 😂 needless to say this book was great. It was sweet, heartbreaking, eye opening and beautiful!

Another 5🌟 book from my favourite all time author

Not sure where to start other than I sat through this entire audiobook in one sitting. Powerful, beautiful, gripping, heartfelt writing once again from Corinne. Sadly for me there is now not a book of hers I haven’t read. But for anyone out there who is not familiar with her writing….
A) where have you been!
B) I’m insanely jealous of all the reading you are about to become hooked on…. Enjoy 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Not For Me

SPOILERS AHEAD
Maybe it’s my headspace currently but I DNF this book. The heroine couldn’t make her mind up. It felt really gloomy - her dad was dying for most of the book and then the Hero hot cancer. I just can’t. Not today.
Great narration but the story didn’t work for me.
