Publisher's Summary

Del Sol, New Mexico is known for three things: its fry-an-egg-on-the-cement summers, strong cups of coffee - and, now, a nationwide manhunt?

Del Sol native Sunshine Vicram has returned to town as the elected sheriff, expecting nothing more than a quiet ride. But now a teenage girl is missing, a kidnapper is on the loose, and all of this is reminding Sunshine why she left Del Sol in the first place. Add to that the trouble at her daughter's new school, plus a kidnapped rooster named Puff Daddy, and, well, the forecast looks anything but sunny.

But even clouds have their silver linings. This one's got Levi, Sunshine's sexy, almost-old flame, and Quincy Cooper, a fiery-hot US marshall. With temperatures rising everywhere she turns, Del Sol's normally cool-minded sheriff is finding herself knee-deep in drama and danger.

Can Sunshine face the call of duty - and find the kidnapper who's terrorising her beloved hometown - without falling head over high heels in love...or worse?

Funny and enthralling

Don’t get me wrong, a lot of clues are obvious, but I was hooked all the same.
About to look for the sequel...

Great characters and story, but...

We all have our pet peeves. I can suspend disbelief with the best of them. I don't however care for the plot device of long held misunderstandings being the basis of a relationship or causing trauma. This story contains several such threads, one as yet only a suspicion (but fairly obvious). Sure, the resolution is all the sweeter however as an individual who is known for boring others to tears with explanations to avoid misunderstandings I find it aggravating . Other than this I enjoyed the characters, the snark and story line.

It seems like a promising series but not a story I will reread.

Lorelei King is a masterful narrator who once again keeps all the characters separate, distinguishable and sympathetic.

As most other readers won't be hampered by my pet peeve I have only taken 1 star off for that particular disappointment.

Brilliantly Binge Worthy with Great Narration

Darynda Jones has done it again, brilliant. This is a great start to a new series. The story line and characters are engrossing, there are twist, turns, quirks, secrets and laugh out loud humour all wrapped up in an intriguing who done it and why, the issues are brilliantly tackled and dialogue between characters is engaging. Lorelei King brings the characters off the page perfectly. I loved Darynda Jones's Charley Davidson series, but think I'm going to love this even more. The female protagonist is extremely likeable and in the mix of all the characters is my dream man (no spoilers). You know a book is very good when it can make you laugh, cry, think, surprise you and you listen to it in one day/night because you have to know what happens next. I'm so looking forward to the next book in this series and watching the characters develop even more as more secrets are unveiled.

A Highly Recommended Listen or Read.
