When Fitzwilliam Darcy makes an impetuous offer of marriage to Miss Elizabeth Bennet, he is convinced they have as good a chance as any for a harmonious life together. That is, until an overheard conversation changes everything, and Darcy realizes he is now joined in perpetuity to a woman who loathes the very sight of him. Elizabeth Bennet's expectations for matrimonial accord were never very high, having accepted Mr. Darcy's proposal in a fit of pique, not love. Story
With two proposals in one day, which offer will Miss Elizabeth Bennet choose? Marriage to the first of the two men would subject her to misery of the acutest kind. Marriage to the other would be merely for the sake of avoiding a scandal. Either would serve the interests of Elizabeth's family, but what of her own wishes? Will Elizabeth reject both gentlemen's offers of marriage, especially when one of them is Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy? Will she dare to refuse such a man?
Publisher's Summary
Fitzwilliam Darcy is on the run...with a baby!
When an emergency summons Mr. Darcy back to London during the Netherfield ball, he discovers a newborn in his study along with a note. Now, he must guard a secret that could shatter his family and put the child in danger. But that isn’t his biggest challenge. He must find a wife - a woman he can trust with his charge and with his heart.
Elizabeth Bennet’s prospects for a marriage based on love are taken away from her when her father makes a deal with Mr. Darcy, a man she despises. When she learns the identity of the baby and the true identity of the man she married, will their marriage of convenience develop into a love for the ages?
Together, they face slander, intrigue, family pressure, and prison. Will their marriage survive? Will the baby thrive? Or, will forces much larger than themselves destroy everything Darcy and Elizabeth hope for? This regency variation of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice by best-selling author J Dawn King is appropriate for all ages.

Wonderful
The book was a very fast read but I did enjoy it immensely. I am glad Elizabeth was able to recognize right away how wrong she had been in her judgment of Mr Darcy, Mr Bennet and Mr Wickham. I also enjoyed the way Mr Darcy was able to swallow his pride and get rid of his arrogance and aloofness and was able to meet his new wife's forthrightness with his own truthfulness so they could build a solid foundation for their marriage and be able to battle the the false accusations and preservere against the injustice. I am glad Mr Wickham, Hugh Fitzwilliam, Earl of Matlock and Lady Catherine got their just desserts.
I know I have stated it before, Stevie Zimmerman is one of my favorite narrators. Her work on this book proves why. She was extraordinary.

A delightful story with all the beloved characters from Pride and Prejudice. It was fast paced without many unexpected twists. Some of it was over the top but had enough Austin flavor for the most ardent fan.

My new favorite
I've been an admirer of J. Dawn King talent for a long time and I've read all her books. This one is my new favorite, the plot, well developed characters, especially villains and original characters were superb. And of course Darcy and Elizabeth the way I love them most, thrown together into adversity which makes them shine. No long drawn misunderstandings, ODC quickly managed to overcome their previous opinions and were united in protecting the baby they had been entrusted with to their detriment. I loved this Elizabeth, strong, smart, fearless in protecting her loved ones. The confrontation in the Matlock House was priceless, Elizabeth used her intelligence and courage to prevail in a situation which had seemed hopeless. And love and devotion between Darcy and Elizabeth is palpable.
Steve Zimmerman added new levels to this book with her brilliant narration. I could feel the emotions of the characters in every scene. As always her portrayal of each personality brings them to life. Wickham's bravado and flippancy, Lord Matlock and Lady Catherine's arrogance and self importance were played to perfection. The interactions of Darcy and Elizabeth made me feel their initial anger and sadness changing to deep emotional bond.
Another winner from this author and narrator duo. Highly recommended.

This makes no sense!
Why bother setting a story in pre-existing ip when you are going to change everything including the main characters entire personality? This story makes no sense and the characters make completely irrational and down right stupid decisions. If you, as an author, want to write an "on the run" story with a little baby-snatching sprinkles in, then do that. Do not completely butcher a beloved story simply because of brand recognition. All Austen novels have a point to convey. This novel is somehow pretentious and ridiculous. It has officially put me off of Austen variations .

Complex story
At the beginning I felt that Elizabeth was very quick to change her mind about Darcy, going from dislike to overwhelming love in a very short space of time. Overall I enjoyed this story and it had a lot of things happen, but mostly after Elizabeth and Darcy had resolved their differences.
