Story
Maitland 1913. Miss Elizabeth Quinn is something of an institution in Maitland Town. For longer than anyone could remember she and her brother, businessman Michael, have lived in the impressive two-story stone house next to the church. When she is discovered cowering in the corner of the exhibition gallery at the Technical College, the entire town knows something strange has come to pass. Was it the prehistoric remains or perhaps the taxidermy exhibition that had reduced the whale-boned encased pillar of society to a quivering mess? Or is there something odd about a striking painting?

Not a good read
I did listen to the end to see if it got better but was very disappointed.
I found the prose and performance clunky and patronising; it left nothing to the imagination.
The premise was ok and promised revelations but nothing happened.
I was particularly irritated that no explanation was given about why May changed her mind about living to 111!

Boring read for me I'm sorry to say.😔
I'm sad to say I found this book quite dreary. I heard it as an audio book and the narration did very little to peak my interest either. I struggled hard to finish it but was quite determined to, if only to honestly add to my Goodreads Reading Challenge.

I am sure some people will love this. Not for me... too twee. I plodded on waiting for something to happen. It doesn’t.
I wasn’t very keen on the narration. Very dull with some weird accents

sorry , badly narrated
Annette Holland was absolutely the wrong pick to Narrate this story. I am so sorry but the narration ruined would could have been a pleasant and easy read.
I felt myself willing the book to end.
I will read book 2 myself.
wish I could get a refund.
