＜北海道＞
・摩周湖紀行 林芙美子
平野と湖を眺め暮らす芙美子が語る。「宿屋では牛乳と鮭と蕗ばかり。この一ヶ月は、私を楽天家にしてくれた。陽気になりつつある。十一貫の小さな私が、一貫目も増えた。生きていることは愉しい。」
・雪中行 石川啄木
啄木は小樽から旭川に向かう景色を「木という木は皆、その幹の片端に雪を着けている。死の林とは、これまであるまいか。数知れぬ樹が皆、白銀の鎧を着て立ち往生している」と描く。
・空知川の岸辺 国木田独歩
開拓地を求めて石狩の野を往く若き独歩。だが、原始の大森林の中で「この場所、この時において、人はただ《生存》そのもの」と空想する。
・層雲峡より大雪山へ 大町桂月
「富士山に登って山岳の高さを語れ、大雪山に登って山岳の大いなるを語れ」の名文で始まる桂月渾身の山岳紀行は、大雪山に連なる層雲峡を「鬼神が天上に楼閣を造れるかと思われるばかり」と絶賛する。

＜屋久島・沖縄＞
・屋久島紀行 林芙美子
樹林に蔽われた山々を見「人間が住んでいる島なのか」と感じた芙美子。トロッコで山上に達すると「鋭利な知能を必要としない自然、柔らかい山ふところに登りつめ、私はその楽しみの飽くことを知らない。山の精力が細やかな種子になって降る」と詠む。
・沖縄の思い出 柳宋悦
沖縄に長く滞在し「万葉時代が今も生きている」と、音楽、舞踊、織物、工芸品等をこよなく愛した「美の巨人」宋悦。その特長を「沖縄の音楽や踊りは、日々の暮らしの中に滲み込んでいて、むしろ暮らしがそれらのものの中にあり、それがない所に、暮らしがない有様です」と述べる。
・島の人生 柳田國男
「沖縄は決して最後の沖の小島ではない。その抱えている苦しみも、宮古、八重山の島の人々が、沖縄に感じている不便と不満と同じものである」と國男は述べ、《諸君の不平には限界があってはならぬ。》と青年に熱く語りかける。©国書刊行会 Asia Japan
