Publisher's Summary

For an instant the two trains ran together, side by side. In that frozen moment, Elspeth witnessed a murder. Helplessly, she stared out of her carriage window as a man remorselessly tightened his grip around a woman's throat. The body crumpled. Then the other train drew away. But who, apart from Miss Marple, would take her story seriously? After all, there were no suspects, no other witnesses...and no corpse.

Even a Christie fan will find this boring

I’m a huge Christie fan, and have listened to at least 30 of hers on Audible. This one was just boring. The characters were under developed and not very believable. The narrator’s accent is far too affected so it’s hard to tell the difference between the characters. The audio quality is also quite bad - crackly and the volume goes up and down (though this might be because of the performance)

Perfection in audio form.

I loved the story and Joan Hickson gives it life and soul, making it easy to visualize all the action.

Classic Christie

One of Agatha Christie's best known novels, the books sees Miss Marple come up with a cunning plan to obtain information about a murder on a train. There are some fantastic characters too, such as the capable Lucy Eyelesbarrow and curmudgeonly old Mr Crackenthorpe. Read by the quintessential Miss Marple herself, Joan Hickson, who has the perfect delivery (though I found it odd at first when she referred to Miss Marple in the third person!). Recommended for Christie fans.

Miss Marple, but not much of her!

Miss Marple is a recurrent character through the book but the main character is actually her friend Lucy. The story is classic Agatha Christie, and gets straight down to it, with a murder in the first few minutes. Rather a slow middle but picks up again towards the end and was very enjoyable. Lovely narration by Joan Hickson too

A Quintessential Miss Marple Experience

Joan Hickson (RIP) IS Miss Marple and the story is superbly performed. Agatha Christie's characters are engaging in a way with scenes set that engage all one's senses. Wonderful.

Wonderful

Joan Hickson was a brilliant character actress with a long career before finding fame on tv as Miss Marple. Narrating here she bring all of Christie’s cast of characters and the world they live in brilliantly to life. A classic whodunnit read by a class act.

Couldn’t finish this one

Tho I loved Joan Hickson as Miss Marple in the BBC TV adaptations some years ago, I just couldn’t listen to this!
I found it irritating.
Pity because this is such a great story.
Why are most of Audibles Christie books read by ex stars if the TV adaptations?
Hugh Fraser is just as bad, very boring voice.

Disappointing

Joan Hickson is the quintessential Miss Marple for video. Sadly she reads this book in the old-fashioned manner without altering her voice for any of the characters, and I found this made the story very flat.
