В разгаре работы Солженицын записывает: "В "Архипелаге" я написал: теперь если придется получить бодрое письмо, то только от бывшего зэка. Ныне, в 1977-м, могу добавить: или от бывшего белогвардейца. Пережившие тьму, унижение и нищету эмиграции, в возрастах по 80 лет, - передают мне в письмах свою твердость, верность России, ясный взгляд на вещи. Столько перестрадать и так сохраниться духом!
