Editorial Review

American Grit
On 21 July, 2024, President Joseph R. Biden bowed out of the US presidential campaign and Vice President Kamala Harris stepped in. She had 107 days to mount a campaign, meet American citizens from coast-to-coast, debate, raise money (those fundraising Zooms were epic), and convince voters to elect her on November 5. The morning of the election in the States, I called a colleague and told her how emotional I felt. I couldn’t quite pinpoint if I was overwhelmingly happy that a Black woman was potentially going to call the White House home, or that she got this far. Now, 24 September, 2025, will be just as significant for me, since it’s when I will listen to Harris narrate her political memoir. It will undoubtedly lodge somewhere in my psyche forever. How could it not? Kamala Harris has a place in history that will never be erased. No one can take that away. No. One.—Yvonne D., Audible Editor

Very well written memoir and unique perspective over an intense and consequential political campaign. Well crafted book, clearly delivered, broad in scope of geopolitical matters and currents.

Candid, nuanced behind the scenes take, unique

I am glad to have listened to the book. I learned many details that we can’t know away from a campaign. But mostly I appreciated knowing the person who have the people at heart. Thank you for writing this book. I do recommend it.

Inspiring

Great book from a greater woman. Smart, dedicated and a true leader. The one America for so wrong!

What a loss!

Honest, heartfelt, and humbly acknowledging the errors she made. Her overall loyalty to Biden cost her the election, and Biden, should have handed over the reigns much earlier. I hope she makes a comeback 🙏🏼

A honest and admirable person who would have been in the White House, if she had more time...

I watched this campaign from my home in Australia with such hope. The joy was so refreshing, the smiles so broad and so genuine! Tim Walz restored my faith in humanity and I really wanted to see Kamala and Tim take the presidency and lead the world.
It was good to read Kamala’s accounting of this time, this book is such a clear reflection of who she is, measured, thoughtful, values driven, a truly kind, good person. Reading this book has re-inspired me, she makes me want to be better, do better.

During the campaign her words ‘don’t let them define you’ had meaning in my own life, and this book has reminded me to move through my cynicism, to remember my values and roll up my sleeves to do the work. Thank you for your leadership Kamala!

Remembering the joy

I thought hearing that Trump has won the 2016 election was a bad enough shock, but the ensuing nine years have been a nightmare. Seeing him take the leadership a second time left me wondering just what the hell was happening to this world. Listening to Kamala tell her story of her 107 day campaign, gave me a newfound respect for the mammoth task she faced, and increased my frustration with a Democratic Party that seem to be drive by the financial backers, and complete cowardice. This was well written, honest, and will be a valuable piece of history as the world moves into this terrifying new era .

Unputdownable, this only increased my respect for Kamala Harris
