Publisher's Summary

When 16-year-old poetry blogger Tessa Dickinson is involved in a car accident and loses her eyesight for 100 days, she feels like her whole world has been turned upside-down.

Terrified that her vision might never return, Tessa feels like she has nothing left to be happy about. But when her grandparents place an ad in the local newspaper looking for a typist to help Tessa continue writing and blogging, an unlikely answer knocks at their door: Weston Ludovico, a boy her age with bright eyes, an optimistic smile…and no legs.

Knowing how angry and afraid Tessa is feeling, Weston thinks he can help her. But he has one condition - no one can tell Tessa about his disability. And because she can’t see him, she treats him with contempt: screaming at him to get out of her house and never come back. But for Weston, it’s the most amazing feeling: to be treated like a normal person, not just a sob story. So he comes back. Again and again, and again.

Tessa spurns Weston’s “obnoxious optimism”, convinced that he has no idea what she’s going through. But Weston knows exactly how she feels and reaches into her darkness to show her that there is more than one way to experience the world. As Tessa grows closer to Weston, she finds it harder and harder to imagine life without him - and Weston can’t imagine life without her. But he still hasn’t told her the truth, and when Tessa’s sight returns, he’ll have to make the hardest decision of his life: vanish from Tessa’s world...or overcome his fear of being seen.

100 Days of Sunlight is a poignant and heartfelt novel by author Abbie Emmons. If you like sweet contemporary romance and strong family themes, then you’ll love this touching story of hope, healing, and getting back up when life knocks you down.

This story was so captivating!!

I listened to this throughout my whole work shift, benefits of what work I do, so many different parts had me in tears, I couldn't stop listening. I loved their slow built up chemistry throughout, and you had me on the edge of my seat with the chance it was going to be a bad ending, but overjoyed of how wrong I was.
Abbie you are an amazing writer and I encourage everyone to get their hands on this masterpiece!

Awesome message + characters (+ narration!)

This story is awesome, because Weston is awesome. He is a character that jumps off the page (er, screen), larger than life, and sticks with you. He’s not unrealistic, either. You watch him struggle, you watch him be vulnerable, and you watch him overcome. He’s a character that moves you. His backstory (and the ending) are my favourite parts of the book.

And Tessa, she’s probably at least a little bit relatable if you’ve had your life turned upside down by circumstances. She is afraid, and so she cries and screams and gets angry and refuses to let go. And her eventual character development is a thing to behold.

The tag line of this book is something I can imagine coming right out of the mouth of Weston (and eventually, Tessa): ‘When life knocks you down… get up.’ It’s not trite and fluffy. It’s raw and gritty and hard-earned. That’s why the ending is so satisfying. (It needs to be a few pages longer!)

Abbie also does a fantastic job fleshing out relationships between guys, whether they’re brothers or best friends. Also, she literally sings and plays the ukulele in this audiobook. You can get better than that.

A good listen

I came here because of Abbie's YouTube channel, she has some really engaging videos which change the way I write, but can she practice what she preaches?
Yes,

I did initially struggle with Weston being let inside and around Tessa's house and into her room, especially with her not being comfortable with it. I can't imagine being so casual about the security of my blind and vulnerable granddaughter just because the stranger has two missing legs. But moving past this initial roadblock there is a really good story which illustrates the guidelines Abbie would set out in her videos (seriously, check her out if you haven't already).

There are well written characters and a believable building romance that doesn't feel forced or contrived (beyond my feelings above)
Both characters have strong character arcs, though Weston's feels a little bit like it does a double take towards the end.
Like Abbie suggests, stories crafted in the way she has definitely stand out from 90% of what's out there and it's refreshing.

Surprisingly well narrated as well, lots of conveyed emotion and decent voice variation which put quite a few other narrators out there to shame.

Wow!

There aren't words for how much this book meant to me. Thanks Abbie, for writing and sharing this! I can't wait for more of your books.

As for the 'review' part of this...

The characters were really well developed. I fell in love with the MCs very quickly, and was cheering from them right from the start. Weston's backstory was so heart-breaking, and I loved the use of well-timed flashbacks to kind of tell his backstory at the same time as Tessa's present. Their relationship made their individual characters even more enjoyable. I loved that the book wasn't a romance, as such, it was about something deeper; the romance was a sweet sideplot, almost. I also loved that the romance part was 'clean' (not all romances need to be clean, but I enjoy it when I find it).

As for the theme! It was easily the best part of the book. I won't even try to sum up the theme, I'll leave it to you to read the book. You won't be disappointed.

Now, for the general stuff. The pacing was great. It was a slower paced book, but I was always interested in what was going on, and the pacing worked perfectly for the story being told. The writing was pleasant to read, and had a great flow. The voices of the characters were on point. All round, a great book.

Outstanding listening experience

What can I say when I haven’t been this blown away by a story in years? The novel is excellent, Emmons’ reading of it exquisite. Weston’s voice is on point, you really can hear his essence in the way he talks. I am an adult and I haven’t been this hooked by a YA novel in years. And I’ve been looking for a while! I’ve wanted to experience the feeling you get from a good YA story for ages, but honestly no book has done it better than this one for me. If you are debating whether to buy this book, I’m telling you: you won’t regret it. I am blown away - Abbie Emmons, don’t ever stop writing, the world needs you.
