Story
The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

Story
It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs - once thought of almost as gods - were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

Publisher's Summary
Nona Grey’s story reaches its shattering conclusion in the third instalment of Book of the Ancestor.
They came against her as a child. Now they face the woman.
The ice is advancing, the Corridor narrowing, and the empire is under siege from the Scithrowl in the east and the Durns in the west. Everywhere, the emperor’s armies are in retreat.
Nona faces the final challenges that must be overcome if she is to become a full sister in the order of her choice. But it seems unlikely that Nona and her friends will have time to earn a nun’s habit before war is on their doorstep.
Even a warrior like Nona cannot hope to turn the tide of war. The shiphearts offer strength that she might use to protect those she loves, but it’s a power that corrupts. A final battle is coming in which she will be torn between friends, unable to save them all. A battle in which her own demons will try to unmake her. A battle in which hearts will be broken, lovers lost, thrones burned.
Holy Sister completes the Book of the Ancestor trilogy that began with Red Sister and Grey Sister. A groundbreaking series, it has established Mark Lawrence as one of the most exciting new voices in modern speculative fiction.
Critic Reviews
"An excellent writer." (George R.R. Martin)
"Dark, passionate, tense, with a female hero anyone could relate to - I was utterly fascinated! This is no pretty, flowery tale, but one of vastly different people struggling to survive when a hostile government comes to power." (Number one New York Times best-selling author Tamora Pierce)

Such a good ending to a fantastic series.
This book closed out the series well with all major plot points closed off (most of them at least) and an ending that made sense while still being amazing to listen to. Would recommend.

Brilliant
I love grimdark and the author is known for it with his other novels- but oddly, I don't like his other novels (not compared with the King JA)! This trilogy has great worldbuilding and is bloody and yet not grimdark - and it is my favourite books by this author. I'll probably read these books again- a great ending - sad to part with the characters

Good conclusion to series
Really enjoyed the final book in this series. Again the performance by Helen Duff was excellent. Good use of time to build the story to a strong finish. Really enjoyed the more complex I se of ‘magic’ and the development of romance. By the end of the book you really connect with all the characters, are drawn into each relationship and really care about everyone!! Wish there more more books to come in the series.

Holy Sister indeed!
Wow did I struggle to finish this book. It was a good conclusion to the series but it wasn't what I was expecting. The story was told in 2 parts split between the past and present with lots added off page. I think I enjoy a straight forward story better rather than the chopping and changing. The overall twist at the end/conclusion was great though, quite unexpected. I really enjoyed the character growth of Nona though, she started out as Wolverine then finished up as quite the wise well balanced person. Still love this world and the characters. Also can we have a book all about Sisters Apple and Kettle as the focus please Mr Lawrence?
