 島根の県庁所在地・松江市北部、島根半島の中程に、出雲国二宮・佐太神社が鎮座する。全国の神々が出雲に集う旧暦十月「神無月」も、出雲では「神在月」となり、出雲大社では「神在祭」が行われるが、ここ佐太神社にも、神々が集うと言われ、「神在祭」が行われる。佐太神社に神々が集う理由は、奥の山に神々の母・イザナミノミコトが葬られており、「法事」を行うためだという。その先触れを告げるのが、毎年秋になると海流に乗って出雲へやって来る海蛇「龍蛇様」だ。蛇は、世界中の伝承で、永遠の生命の象徴とされる。それは、男性器に似た形状に由来するという。男性器は子孫を生み出すものであり、それを通じて、過去の祖先と、未来の子孫に繋がっていると。それ故に永遠の象徴だと。その永遠の象徴たる「龍蛇様」が、あの世から祖先神を連れてきて、子孫の神々と再会する。それが毎年繰り返される。この繰り返しによって、永遠の時が紡がれる。それが神在祭なのだという。これは「死と再生」という、世界中の多くの宗教が中心に据えたテーマである。神々の国・出雲で、その真髄を見る。語り:高橋御山人 聞き役:盛池雄峰(C)2015 リブラ・エージェンシー Travel Writing & Commentary
