 長崎県小値賀町(おぢかちょう)は、東シナ海に浮かぶ、五島列島の北部に位置する島々から成る町である。中核となるのは小値賀島であり、「肥前国風土記」にも登場する。風土記によれば、かつて「まつろわぬ民」土蜘蛛がいて、島民の言葉や習俗が本土と異なり、南九州の「まつろわぬ民」隼人と似ているという。そんな小値賀島には、地の神島神社(こうじまじんじゃ)がある。この神社は、野崎島にある沖の神島神社と、海を挟んで向かい合っている。野崎島は、近年無人化した島で、小値賀島と違って急峻な地形であり、沖の神島神社は海に面した標高300m程の山頂近くに鎮座する。社殿の後ろには、王位石(おえいし)という高さ20m以上の巨石が聳える。人工的に作られたと思われるようなテーブル状の石組で、古代ヨーロッパの巨石遺構「ドルメン」を想起させる。野崎島は、隠れキリシタンの島でもあり、禁教が解かれた後に築かれた教会は、暫定世界遺産リストに登録されている。日本の果てでありつつも、大陸に近く、かつては交通の大動脈上に位置した小値賀。その小ぶりな島々は、現代の高速道路にある、パーキングエリアのような役目であり、様々な人々が小休止しつつ、あるいは定着したのではないか。古の国際海上交通から神社とその立地を考える。語り:高橋御山人 聞き役:盛池雄峰(C)2015 リブラ・エージェンシー Travel Writing & Commentary
