 東日本最大級の山岳信仰霊場として名高い、出羽三山。 今も修験の聖地として名高く、山伏が荒行を積み、白装束の信徒が山に登る。 三山は、曼荼羅のように、それぞれ異なる特色を持っている。 その中でも、一番平地に近い羽黒山には、多くの人が訪れる。 ○日本三大五重塔の一つが聳える杉並木の参道は、ミシュラン三ツ星の評価 ○巨大な三神合祭殿前の池からは、数多くの平安時代の鏡が出土した ○蘇我馬子に弑逆された崇峻天皇の皇子・蜂子皇子が逃れて来た開いたという 蜂子皇子開山は、時代的には修験道の開祖・役小角以前のこと。 当時は朝廷の勢力圏外でもあり、伝承には謎がつきまとう。 そんな羽黒山の背後には、三山の内でもひときわ高い月山が聳えたっている。 ●万年雪のある、標高二千メートル近くの山頂に神社が鎮座 ●湿原の広がる弥陀ヶ原、役小角が追い返された行者返しなど、神仏習合的な地名 ●月山の名の通り、月の神を祀る そして、出羽三山の最奥とも言うべき、湯殿山。 ◎御神体を、文字通り肌で感ずる聖地で、かつては口外禁止であり、今も撮影禁止。 ◎即身仏の信仰が行われた場所で、今もいくつかの寺院に残っている ◎かつて三山を構成した山は今と異なり、宗派も一つではなかった 明治政府の廃仏毀釈によって損なわれた、神仏習合、修験道とは何か。 自然の「山」、社会の「山」で荒行を積んだ「現代の山伏」二人談義。 語り:高橋御山人 聞き役:盛池雄峰2014 リブラ・エージェンシー Travel Writing & Commentary
