 高知県の香南市に、若一王子宮という神社が鎮座する。近郷八村の総鎮守で、鎌倉～南北朝時代に、紀州熊野より勧請されたと見られている。若一王子は、若王子ともいい、熊野三山で信仰される神の一柱。この神社で特筆すべきは「お烏喰神事」である。それは、海水で禊し、結界を張った神社に籠って球形の餅を作り、深夜、祈祷した後に本殿の屋根の上に供えるというもの。すると、熊野より二羽の烏が飛来し、餅を食べて行くといい、早朝、宮司がそれを知らせる。烏は、熊野の神の使いとされ、それは三本足の「八咫烏（やたがらす）」ともされている。この神事は、熊野三山の一つ・熊野速玉大社と、京都の若王子宮の三ヶ所で行われていたが、現在では高知の若一王子宮にしか残っていない。また、近隣の赤岡には、神主や巫女、僧侶、漂泊の芸能民、大工等が住んでいたことを示す地名が残っている。その中心には、土佐特有の呪術師「博士（はかしょ）」を統率する博士頭・芦田注連太夫の屋敷があり、摩利支天を祀り中臣祓を行うという、神仏習合の呪術を司っていた。土佐北東の山間・物部村に伝わる陰陽道の色彩が濃い民間呪術「いざなぎ流（百社巡礼其之七参照）」との関係も深い。時を超え、呪術の国・土佐の深層へと降りる旅。(C)高橋御山人2015 Travel Writing & Commentary
