 東日本大震災による津波で凄絶な被害を受けた、岩手県の大船渡市。その郊外の漁港近くに、尾崎神社が建っている。式内社・理訓許段神社(りくこたじんじゃ)と目されるこの神社は、社会学者・田村浩氏や、民俗学者・谷川健一氏によって、アイヌの祭祀具「イナウ」そっくりな「稲穂」の神宝を収蔵する事が知られた。その箱には「えぞ」の習俗を伝えるものだという歌も添えられている。この尾崎神社も、東日本大震災の津波によって大きな被害を受けたが、この「イナウ」のような神宝は奇跡的に残り、その後、高橋御山人も直接会った事のある北海道のアイヌの長老・アトゥイ氏による、アイヌ式の犠牲者供養の儀式が、宮司立会いの下、神社境内で行われた。大船渡の隣、陸前高田市の氷上神社も、理訓許段の神を祀る神社である。2015年10月には、震災後初めての、五年に一度の大祭が行われ、高橋御山人も参加した。市街の大半が失われ、氏子の多くが亡くなったが、各方面の尽力により、何とか大祭を行う事が出来、郷土芸能「虎舞」も披露された。被災地を嵩上げ造成し、復興が進められる陸前高田。そのシンボルとなっているのが津波に耐えた「奇跡の一本松」である。「イナウ」や「奇跡の一本松」、そして「神社」。そこに共通する、共同体の記憶を留める「シンボル」としての役割を考察する。(C)高橋御山人2016 Travel Writing & Commentary
