 高橋御山人が毎日通る道沿いに鎮座する、東京都板橋区の天祖神社。その境内には「天孫降臨の頃」より存在したという男根型の石「おしわぶきさま」が祀られている。それは柳田國男の「石神問答」で指摘された、古代より東日本に広がっている「石神」である。そこからそう遠くない、練馬区石神井の石神井神社には「神代以前の石剣」を御神体とする石神井神社があるが、この石神井という地名も「石神」信仰に由来するものという。そして、各地に残る石神信仰のルーツを遡って行くと、諏訪の土着神「ミシャグジ神」の信仰へと辿り着く。それは、精霊崇拝的な原始信仰であり、近代以前は「神長官（じんちょうがん）」の役職を世襲する守矢家がその祭祀を司った。諏訪には、記紀神話とは異なる神話も伝わっており、守矢家は、皇室と同等の古さを誇る家だという。そのような原初的な信仰を伝える諏訪の祭祀には、串刺しにした兎や、鹿の生首を大量に供える血生臭いものもあり、諏訪大社は、仏教の教理に基づき建前上肉食禁止であった中世の日本において、狩猟と肉食の許可状を発行する唯一の神社でもあった。諏訪は、縄文文化が栄えた地でもあるが、諏訪大社の狩猟との関連は、狩猟が盛んだった縄文由来のものとも言われる。「平地」とは異なる「山」の原初的信仰と、そのセンターである諏訪について考察する。(C)高橋御山人2015 Travel Writing & Commentary
