 毎年高橋御山人が足を運んでいる、民間呪術「いざなぎ流」が伝わる、高知県北西部山間の物部村（現・香美市）。毎年、高知県立歴史民俗資料館が、研究ツアーを開催しているが、平成二十八年は、資料館でも「いざなぎ流の里・物部」という企画展を開き、多数のイベントを開催した。例年通りツアーも行われ、今回は、まだあまり研究の進んでいない、物部北部の上韮生（かみにろう）地域を中心に巡った。ここでは、魚を捕る為に淵に毒を流し、祟りによって山崩れが起き滅びた集落や、鍛冶屋が熱した大金槌を池に投げ入れて退治した、人々に恐れられた大蛇など、水神の伝承が目立つ。その大蛇伝説の池がある神池の集落には、かつて七堂伽藍の大寺院があったというが、現在境内に残るのは大日寺と王子神社のみである。その間の広場では、かつていざなぎ流の呪術師・太夫による「大山鎮め」の儀式が行われていた。神道、仏教、陰陽道、修験道が混ざり合っていたいざなぎ流らしさの残る場所である。その様相は現代からすれば「ガラパゴス」のように見受けられるが、かの小説家・京極夏彦氏は、それをガラパゴスと感じる方がおかしいのだと指摘する。実は今回、ツアー翌日に、香美市主催の小松和彦氏や京極夏彦氏の講演も行われ、御山人も参加したのである。「辺境の呪術」に、「日本人の本来の心象」を見る。(C)高橋御山人2016 Travel Writing & Commentary
