 本シリーズも第九十社。テーマは言うまでもなく「神社」だが、作品の多くに共通するテーマとして「まつろわぬ民」や「鬼」がある。それは高橋御山人が長年運営しているWEBサイト「邪神大神宮」のテーマでもある。いずれも朝廷や幕府といった時々の権力に容易には従わなかった人々であり、本シリーズは第一社からしてアテルイがテーマで、各地の土蜘蛛を度々取り上げ、鬼女紅葉、酒呑童子、温羅等、「鬼」そのものも数多く紹介した。隼人の首領とされる弥五郎どんや、飛騨の両面宿儺等、「まつろわぬ」族長の影が濃い存在も登場している。傀儡子師や木地師といった、非農耕非定住の漂泊民も取り上げた。彼らも農耕定住を基盤とする日本の歴史的統治体系からすれば、一種の「アウトサイダー」であり、「まつろわぬ民」や「鬼」につながっている。非農耕の産鉄民をテーマとした回もあるが、農耕民から異様に見られた彼らは、「鬼」のルーツの一つである。こうして振り返ってみると、その一つの極、頂点に、後醍醐天皇という存在が浮かび上がって来る。天皇という体制の頂点にありながら、体制を破壊し再構築しようとした後醍醐天皇こそ、究極の「まつろわぬ」存在であり、「鬼」ではないか。そしてそれは、一般の認識とは異なる「天皇制」の別側面の象徴でもあった。「日本史の裏側」を透視する特別対談。(C)高橋御山人2016 Travel Writing & Commentary
