 日本書紀には、羽白熊鷲(はじろくまわし)という、不思議な人物が現れる。翼を持って空を飛び、民を脅かしたため、三韓征伐の前に、神功皇后に討たれたという。日本書紀によればその拠点は「荷持田村（のとりたのふれ）」であり、福岡県朝倉市、秋月城跡近くの「野鳥（のとり）」という地名は、その名残だという。同じ市内の筑後川近く、蜷城（ひなしろ）の地には美奈宜（みなぎ）神社が建つが、その地名は、神功皇后が川蜷（かわにな）によって城を作り、攻めて来た羽白熊鷲を水攻めにして滅ぼしたため「になしろ」といい、それが訛ったものという。羽白熊鷲を滅ぼした後、神を祀る場所を求めて、一羽の白鷺を放し、その降り立った場所に建てたのが、美奈宜神社とされる。朝倉市内には、もう一つ美奈宜神社がある。それは羽白熊鷲の拠点であり、討たれた地ともいう古処山（こしょさん）の山裾にある。そこで神功皇后が熊鷲を討った事を神に奉告したのが、この神社の始まりという。この神社から山を登ったダム湖の畔には、羽白熊鷲ものとされる墳墓もある。隣の筑前町には、三韓征伐にあたり兵を集めたが、神の障りによって集まらず、祭祀をすることで集まったという伝承があるが、その召集に、羽白熊鷲が応じなかったため討たれたという伝説もある。日本神話唯一と言っていい、鳥人伝説の伝承地案内。(C)高橋御山人2016 Travel Writing & Commentary
