後世に多大なる影響を与えた中国怪異譚
聊齋は作者・蒲松齢の号および書斎の名であり、『聊齋志異』とは「聊齋が怪異を記す」の意味です。内容は愛すべき親しむべき人間と神仙、幽霊、妖狐等にまつわる怪異譚で、当時世間に口伝されていたものを収集して小説の形にまとめたものです。この作品がいつ頃書かれたのかについて正確な所は分かりませんが、作者の没後約半世紀を経て刻本として上梓され、天下の奇書にして怪奇文学の最高峰として知られています。日本には江戸時代の後期に伝わり、翻訳、翻案がなされました。近代作家では芥川龍之介、佐藤春夫、木下杢太郎、太宰治などに影響を与えたと言われております。
