教員が連合して月給の支払を要求した時、彼は内心大人げないことだと思ったが、その後一転し、
自分も金に困り、初めてなるほどと感づいた。しかし教員の団体には加入しない。教員への給料未払いの後、
今度は役人への給料未払いが生じた。さきに教員を軽蔑していた役人どもは、
そのうち幾人かは月給支払要求大会の驍将となった。彼は同僚の月給支払請求にも賛成した。
しかし皆と一緒に金の催促にはゆかない。方玄綽の家には節句目前にして金がなかった。

中国の小説家、翻訳家、思想家。本名は周 樹人（しゅう じゅじん）
浙江省紹興府の士大夫の家系に生まれ、中国で最も早く西洋の技法を用いて小説を書いた作家であり、
その作品は、中国だけでなく、東アジアでも広く愛読されている。
日本でも中学校用のすべての国語教科書に彼の作品が収録されている。
代表作に「阿Q正伝」「狂人日記」「故郷」「藤野先生」などがある。
