＜福澤諭吉（ふくざわ・ゆきち）＞
天保5年12月12日（1835年1月10日）─ 明治34年（1901年2月3日）。日本の武士（中津藩士）、著述家、啓蒙思想家、新聞時事新報の創刊・発行者、教育者、東京学士会院（現在の日本学士院）初代会長、慶應義塾創設者。また、専修大学（当時の専修学校）の創設にも尽力した、明治の六大教育家のひとり。
現代では「福沢諭吉」と記載される事が一般的であり、慶應義塾大学をはじめとする学校法人慶應義塾の公式HPでも「福沢諭吉」と表記されている。なお「中村諭吉」と名乗っていた時期がある。諱は範（はん）。字は子囲（しい）。もともと苗字は「ふくさわ」と発音していたが、明治維新以後は「ふくざわ」と発音するようになった。
