バレーボール元日本代表の益子直美さんが主宰する「監督が怒ってはいけない大会」が、メディアで注目され始めている。この大会、その名のとおり「監督が怒ってはいけない」というルールが柱だが、そのほかにも「参加する子どもが最大限に楽しむこと」「子どもたちも監督もチャレンジすること」の三本柱をテーマとする。

益子さんたちのこの試みは「体罰やパワハラが問題になるスポーツ指導に一石を投じる」として、小学生のバレー大会だけではなく、全国のスポーツクラブなどに浸透し始めている。

益子さんはいう。「『怒る指導』は心の成長を阻止し、考える機会を奪います。小学生のスポーツを始めるこの時期はとっても大事な時期です。『根性が足りない！』と脱落させる指導ではなく、『スポーツは楽しい』と思えて、自ら考えて行動でき、継続できるような環境にしてほしいと考えて、少し攻撃的ですが、シンプルに『監督が怒ってはいけない』というルールの大会を開催させていただきました」
