次の日の深夜、守はその会話の中にあった空き家を訪れるが、そこで目にしたのは5日前に失踪した美人女優春川月子が無残に殺される現場であった。犯罪を行ったのは「赤サソリ」と名乗る凶悪な犯罪者であり、現場にはその犯罪の証――「悪魔の紋章」として赤いサソリの絵が血で描かれていた。

男はなぜか守の名を知っていた。

「お前は大切な俺の餌食の兄弟だからね」と言い、さもおかしそうに笑った。
