「いわゆる国家の大事というものは、勘定してみるとずいぶん少くないが、
私の心の中には何の跡方あとかたも残らない。もしその事について影響を説けと言ったら、

「私」の乗っていた車の車夫が老女の着物をひっかけ、倒してしまう。
ケガなどしている様子もないし、大げさに騒がず、さっさと行ってしまいたかったが、
車夫は誠実な態度で老女を支えながら、派出所へ入っていく。
その車夫の後ろ姿がとても大きく見えて、自分の心が変わっていく。

中国の小説家、翻訳家、思想家。本名は周 樹人（しゅう じゅじん）
浙江省紹興府の士大夫の家系に生まれ、中国で最も早く西洋の技法を用いて小説を書いた作家であり、
その作品は、中国だけでなく、東アジアでも広く愛読されている。
日本でも中学校用のすべての国語教科書に彼の作品が収録されている。
代表作に「阿Q正伝」「狂人日記」「故郷」「藤野先生」などがある。
