バートラムは、盗んだジャケットに入っていたものについて、警察に行って話をする気にはなれなかった。自分自身が警察に追われている犯罪者で、警察とは関わりを持ちたくないからだ。ある夜、酔っていたのと大麻を吸った勢いで匿名の電話をかけようとするが、警察は彼の話を信用しない。後に自分の母親に命の危機が迫っていることを知ったバートラムは母に警告しようとするが、彼女もまた取り合おうとしない。母親の後をつけたバートラムは、彼女が自分の知らない男と会っていることを知る。男の正体を母親に問い詰めると、ようやく彼女は男が恋人であること、町を離れて一緒に新たな生活を始めることを計画していることを白状する。バートラムは男の住みかを突き止め、どんな男かを知るために侵入する。男の持ちものをあさったバートラムは、偽造パスポートの束と盗んだ革ジャケットを着た男の写真を見つける。

クリーナーは全６話の犯罪小説である。 インゲル・ガルメゴー・マドセン（1960年生）はデンマークの作家である。グラフィックデザイナーとしての経歴を持つ。2008年、犯罪小説「Dukkebarnet」で作家デビュー。その後、犯罪のジャンルで数々の小説を執筆している。代表作は「Drab efter begæring」（2009年）、「Slangers gift」（2014年）、「Dommer og bøddel」（2015年）、「Blodregn」（2016年）
