 本土復帰前の沖縄。主人公の「私」は、米軍基地内のカクテル・パーティーに招かれる。中国人弁護士の「孫」、内地の新聞記者「小川」、そして沖縄人の「私」は、パーティーの主催者であるアメリカ人の「ミラー」と、中国語会話のグループを作っていた。その関係で、「私」はパーティーに招かれたのだ。彼らと中国語で沖縄文化論などを交わしながら、「私」は、選ばれた「沖縄人」として、基地の中でのパーティーを楽しんでいた。 ちょうどその頃、M岬では、主人公の娘の身の上に、事件が起きていた。 米兵「ロバート・ハリス」に暴行された娘は、彼を崖下に突き落とし、大けがを負わせ逮捕されてしまう。娘が裁かれることは恐れない。しかし「ロバート・ハリス」もまた裁かれなければならないはずだ。まずは娘の裁判に「ロバート・ハリス」を証人として出廷させるため、「お前」は「ミラー」や「孫」や「小川」の友情を信じて、協力を得ようとするのだが。 やがて「カクテル・パーティー」の、「親善の論理」の「欺瞞」が暴かれていくことになる。(C)M.A.P.
