『お伽草子』は、戦争末期の昭和20年、米軍の空襲の度に、人々は家の庭に掘った防空壕に待避した。そんな中で父親が子供たちにおとぎ話を聞かせる、と云う設定で書かれた作品である。昔からよく知られたお伽話を太宰独特のおどけと風刺に満ちた物語に仕上げている短編集で、他に「浦島さん」「カチカチ山」がある。熊倉一雄の独特の語り口は、まさにこの作品の雰囲気を遺憾なく伝えてくれている。
