يُعيد هذا الكتاب اكتشاف العلامة علاء الدين القرشي الذي عرف في ثقافتنا المعاصرة بلقب ابن النفيس واختُزلت جهوده العلمية في أنه مكتشف الدورة الدموية! غير أن الكتاب لا يقتصر على بحث هذه المعلومات المشهورة والمتداولة. وإنما يعيد النظر (وبالتالي الاكتشاف) في عده قضايا تتعلق بشخصية العلامة علاء الدين وجهوده العلمية، منها الشكوك القوية حول اللقب الذي عُرف به (ابن النفيس)، كما أنه ينفي عنه تلامذته على يد الطبيب مهذب الدين الدّخوار. وعلى خلاف المشهور والمتداول، من أن العلامة علاء الدين عاش حياته عزباً، يثبت الكتاب أنه تزوج وأنجب عدة أولاد، منهم ولد يسمى (محمد).

الفصول الخمسة الأخيرة من الكتاب عبارة عن دراسة للمنهج التجريبي عند العلاء، وجهوده الفكرية العلمية، ومنهجه في تصنيف العلوم، وطريقته في التقسيم والتبويب، مع بيان جهوده المنطقية، والنزعة العقلانية في مؤلفاته.
