לאחר שנחל אכזבה בעיר היהודית שבה התגורר חוזר גיבור ויהי בוקר, עיתונאי ערבי, לכפר הולדתו, כדי לבנות מחדש את חייו עם אשתו ובתו. למרבה הפתעתו, מתברר לו כי החברה הערבית שהכיר השתנתה מן הקצה אל הקצה, וכי לא יוכל עוד לחמוק מהתמודדות עם סדריה ומנהגיה החדשים, משום שבוקר אחד הצבא הישראלי מטיל עוצר על הכפר ללא כל סיבה נראית לעין, אין יוצא ואין בא, והעיתונאי ובני משפחתו צריכים להחליט מה פירוש הדבר להיות אדם במצב לא אנושי בעליל.
