Про Довлатова написано очень много, но мне, как ревностному ценителю его таланта и одному из его первых читателей, все написанное виделось слабым или недостаточным. Я то и дело порывался рассказать о любимом мною авторе то, что, как мне казалось, знаю и понимаю только я один. Мне не хотелось пересказывать биографию Довлатова, которая, на мой взгляд, просто громадный перечень всего, мешавшего ему жить и печататься. Для меня было важнее написать о силе воздействия его прозы на читателя, которую я испытал на самом себе.
