В 1924 году издательство "Время" выпустило первый сборник рассказов тогда еще никому не известного писателя - Бориса Житкова. Он назывался Злое море и состоял из пяти новелл: "Мария" и "Мэри", "Над водой", "На воде", "Под водой", "Коржик Дмитрий". Годом позже вышла еще одна книжка рассказов - Морские истории. Она состояла из рассказов: "Джарылгач", "Голый король", "Дяденька", "Компас", "Черная махалка".
