1941 год. Немецкие войска на подступах к Москве. Небольшому отряду советских солдат во главе с лейтенантом Игорем Ивановским поручено уничтожить склад боеприпасов в тылу врага. При переходе линии фронта группа несет потери, но несмотря ни на что оставшиеся в живых бойцы обязаны успеть выполнить приказ до рассвета.
В 1974 году за повесть "Дожить до рассвета" Василь Быков был удостоен Государственной премии СССР.
