Владимир Маркович Санин (1929—1989) писал о людях, выбравших в жизни трудную и опасную дорогу, — о полярниках, пожарных, путешественниках. И сам он относился к той же беспокойной человеческой породе: совсем юным Санин успел принять участие в Великой Отечественной, после войны закончил экономический факультет МГУ, поработал в газете, стал писателем, не раз побывал за полярным кругом, в Арктике и Антарктике. Сюжеты его произведений зачастую основаны на реальных событиях, развиваются в нетривиальных обстоятельствах и замкнутых сообществах (таких, например, как экипаж судна или лавинная станция).
