"Вот настоящая веселость, искренняя, непринужденная. А местами какая поэзия!" - восторженно говорил Пушкин. Материалом для рассказов цикла "Вечера на хуторе близ Диканьки" послужили детские воспоминания Гоголя об обычаях и преданиях, а также рукописи и документальные материалы о народных поверьях и фольклорных традициях Малороссии.
