This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

I am incoherent after this book, I don't even know how to write this review without saying: IT'S AMAZING GO READ IT RIGHT NOW!!

N.K. Jemisin is a master writer and I look forward to reading absolutely everything she ever writes. Robin Miles narration was impeccable. Her male voices genuinely sound like men, and none of the voices sounded to similar to each other -- very easy to understand who was talking.

Now he uses the tricks and schemes of the underworld to help those who need the kind of assistance only a scoundrel can provide. His distrust of the nobility runs deep, and his services do not extend to the gorgeous high-born soldier who personifies everything Jack will never be.

Oh wow! This book!

This book was so beautiful and wonderful, I immediately want to reread it. Gary Furlong's voice is INCREDIBLE. Honestly, the man deserves some sort of award for how amazing his narration is. And Cat Sebastian's story was fun and full of historical accuracies that I just adored. Audible AU, can we please get the rest of the series on here? Please?

I really enjoyed this book, far more than I thought I would! I had looked at reviews of the novel and many of them were quite negative, so I was apprehensive going into this book, but I'm so glad I read it.

The Bone Season is a very unique take on ghosts and spirits, set in an alternate timeline of our own history, with secret creatures controlling the world from another universe. 100% my brand. I liked all the characters, and while the plot was a bit slow sometimes and the main character, made some questionable decisions, it didn't effect my enjoyment of the book.

I quite enjoyed Alana Kerr Collins narration. Her voice for Paige was amazing, but I was a bit irked by her voice for The Warden. The Warden is this otherworldly creature/man who is like 8-feet tall and his voice was super high -- that just kind of jolted me out of my suspension of disbelief. I would have preferred if Collins could have worked on a lower and deeper voice for him.

Opium runs through the heart of the Nikara Empire, a constant reminder of the war with the Federation of Mugen that brought it to the empire’s shores. A war that only ended thanks to three heroes - the Vipress, the Dragon Emperor and the Gatekeeper - known as the Trifecta. They were legendary figures, each bestowed with godlike powers, who united the warlords of the Empire against the Federation.

I am so glad I decided to listen to this book on audiobook instead of physically reading it, because Emily Woo Zeller's performance was phenomenal. She is, without a doubt, one of the best narrators I've heard. Her voices for each character was very distinct and even the male characters genuinely sounded like men.

The Poppy War was a wild ride of a novel, it never lets up and will keep you listening. I found myself doing more and more chores just so I could keep listening. Highly recommend! But also please be aware of the heavy content in this novel (it was inspired by the Nanking Massacre), which includes: genocide, drug use, addiction, racism, self-harm, bullying, abuse, animal cruelty and death, torture, rape (off-page but described in detail), mutilation, graphic depiction of the murder of children and adults, and experimentation on children. Please take care when listening to this book.
