Brisbane, 1983: A lost father, a mute brother, a mum in jail, a heroin dealer for a stepfather and a notorious criminal for a babysitter. It's not as if Eli's life isn't complicated enough already. He's just trying to follow his heart, learning what it takes to be a good man, but life just keeps throwing obstacles in the way - not least of which is Tytus Broz, legendary Brisbane drug dealer. But Eli's life is about to get a whole lot more serious. He's about to fall in love. And oh yeah, he has to break into Boggo Road Gaol on Christmas Day, to save his mum.

This is an incredible story brilliantly brought to life through the narration of Stig Wemyss. This is the first time I have had a story come to life through the telling and it is a wonderful example of what audio books are all about. This book has occupied my commute to and from work for the last week and now I don't know what I'll do without it!

The neat suburban homes of the Peninsula seem like an improbable setting for sex parties, blackmail and murder. But when DI Hal Challis is called to investigate the murder of Janine McQuarrie - shot in a deserted country lane in front of her seven-year-old daughter - his progress is hampered by a web of lies and secrets. Everybody has something to hide, something to lose. And someone in Waterloo is determined to kill again.

I’ve read this book and was looking forward to listening to it in the car but I cant help but visualise the narrator as a Barrister reading an affidavit to a Judge in Court. Muzda instead of Mazda, Fulcan instead of Falcon etc. unfortunately he is unable to keep context and pace as he reads and lacks emotion.
